Two members of the Rohit Godara–Goldy Brar–Virender Charan gang were arrested for trying to kill stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. Police confirmed that the two gangsters, identified as Rahul and Sahil, were arrested while they were having a gunfight on Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road in Delhi. During the investigation, it came to light that the gangster duo was instructed by foreign-based gangster Rohit Godara to kill the comedian.
Intelligence about the shooters
As per police, the duo did scout in Mumbai and Bengaluru to track Munawar’s movements. The duo was tracked down after intelligence about the shooters’ presence near New Friends Colony, authorities said. Around 3 a.m., a trap was laid on Kalindi Kunj-Pushta Road. When the gangsters opened fire, police retaliated, during which Rahul sustained a gunshot wound.
Who is Munawar Faruqui?
The stand-up comedian won reality TV show Bigg Boss in 2024 and currently has a strong fan base on Instagram with 14.2 million followers. The 33-year-old came into the limelight after his jokes on Hindu gods and was arrested in Madhya Pradesh under hate speech, spending over a month behind bars before getting bail.
Police received intelligence in 2024 that there was a threat to Munawar Faruqui’s life, and thus he went back to Mumbai from Delhi. It is alleged that Munawar is on the hit list of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Celebrities targeted
In the past few years, there has been an increase in criminal activities by gangsters Goldy Brar and his gang, especially against celebrities. Two weeks back, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a gangster who was threatening comedian and actor Kapil Sharma. Upon interrogation, the accused admitted that he was from the Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara gang. Last month, two shooters opened fire outside actor Disha Patani’s house in Bareilly; later Godara–Goldy Brar claimed responsibility.
