What Caused the Rajasthan Bus Fire Incident That Left 2 Dead and a Dozen Injured?

The CSR Journal Magazine

A private bus carrying 50 labourers from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh caught fire on the Jaipur-Delhi Highway on Tuesday, two dead and a dozen injured and are in critical condition. This is the second incident this month; another similar incident happened on October 14, when a private AC sleeper caught fire near Thaiyat village in Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan, leaving 20 dead and 15 injured. Today’s incident allegedly happened after a high-tension electricity line came in contact with the bus.

How did the Rajasthan bus fire incident happen?

A bus carrying over 50 brick kiln labourers from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh was heading towards Todi village near Manoharpur when suddenly the roof of the bus touched an overhead live wire. On the roof of the bus were gas cylinders and household items. Upon coming in touch with the wire, the bus got electrocuted, triggering an explosion and setting the bus in flames. Some passengers jumped off the burning bus and saved themselves, while two labourers died on the spot and many sustained severe burns. Locals rushed to help, and firefighters reached and doused the flames in no time; however, massive damage had happened by then.

Who is responsible for the bus fire incident?

During a conversation with The CSR Journal, Superintendent of Police (Jaipur Rural) Rashi Dogra Dudi shared that, looking at the sequence of events, the preliminary probe indicates that the LPG cylinder and household goods placed on the roof of the bus are the key reasons behind the ignition.

Sharing further details of the people injured, Dudi shared that severely burnt victims were immediately rushed to Shahpura government hospital for medical attention. Six of the victims were in critical condition and have been referred to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, Jaipur for advanced treatment.

Currently, police and officials are investigating the matter to get to the root cause of the incident. Different aspects of whether safety protocols were ignored during transportation and if the kaccha road taken by an overloaded bus was appropriate are all being investigated.

Ordering a detailed investigation, Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Premchand Bairwa said, “A fire broke out in a bus carrying labourers from another state. It appears that there were two LPG cylinders on board, and one may have exploded when the bus passed under a high-tension line. Two lives have been lost, and the injured have been admitted to hospitals. A detailed investigation is being conducted.” Former CM Ashok Gehlot has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
