Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024: Big announcements by Adani Group, Reliance and Suzuki
Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani announced a whopping Rs 2 lakh crore investment in Gujarat over the next five years while Reliance Industries Ltd chairman Mukesh Ambani promised a 5,000-acre Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex within this year at the inauguration of the 10th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 on Wednesday. Japanese carmaker Suzuki Motor Corporation announced investments worth Rs 38,200 crore for existing and new plants in Gujarat; the company also plans to roll out its first EV from the state within this year.
The summit is being organised by the Government of Gujarat since 2003. The 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar on Wednesday. The theme of this year’s summit is ‘Gateway to the Future’. This year, 34 partner countries and 16 partner organizations have taken part in the summit.
Describing the upcoming 25 years as India’s “Amrit Kaal”, PM Modi said, “Recently India has completed 75 years of independence. And now India is working on the target for the next 25 years. We have set a target to make India developed by the time India celebrates 100 years of its independence. And hence this 25 year tenure is India’s immortality. This is a period of new dreams, new resolutions and ever-new achievements. This first Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is being held in this Amritkaal. And hence its importance has increased further. Representatives of more than 100 countries who came to this summit are important allies in India’s development journey. I welcome and congratulate all of you.”
Adani Group to invest Rs 2 lakh crore in Gujarat
At the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024, Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group announced a whopping Rs 2 lakh crore investment in Gujarat over the next five years, thereby creating over 1 lakh jobs.
He said, “At the previous summit, I announced our investment of over Rs 55,000 crore by 2025. We have already surpassed Rs 50,000 crore across various sectors, exceeding our target of 25,000 direct and indirect jobs. Today, I commit to further investments.”
The industrialist also announced the construction of the world’s largest energy park in Kutch’s Khavda which is spread over 725 square kilometres. “We are expanding the green supply chain for an Atmanirbhar Bharat and creating the largest integrated renewable energy ecosystem. This includes solar panels, wind turbines, hydrogen electrolysers, green ammonia, PVC, and expansions in copper and cement production,” he expressed.
Talking about India’s GDP, Gautam Adani called it “unparalleled”. The billionaire industrialist, who is currently India’s richest person, said, “Since 2014, India has achieved a 185 per cent growth in GDP and 165 per cent growth in per capita income which is unparalleled given the geopolitical and pandemic-related challenges.”
Ambani’s commitment to Gujarat
Reliance Industries Limited Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, while speaking at the summit informed that Reliance will always remain a “Gujarati company”. “I have come from the city of the Gateway of India to the gateway of modern India’s growth – Gujarat. I am a proud Gujarati…When foreigners think of a new India, they think of a new Gujarat,” he expressed.
Mukesh Ambani said that the company has invested over 150 US dollars all over India in creating world class assets in the last 10 years of this more than one third has been invested in Gujarat alone.
“Today’s India is the best time for young people to enter the economy to innovate and to provide ease of living and ease of earning to hundreds of millions of people… No power on earth can stop India from becoming a 35 trillion-dollar economy by 2047. And as I see Gujarat alone will become a 3-trillion dollar economy,” he expressed at the summit.
The industrialist made five pledges to Gujarat at the summit. Firstly, Reliance will play a major role in making Gujarat a global leader in green growth and help the state meet half of its energy needs through renewable energy by the year 2030. He also informed about a 5000 acre Dhirubhai Energy Giga Complex is coming up in Jamnagar which will be ready to be commissioned in the second half of 2024 itself.
Secondly, due to the fastest roll out of 5G, today Gujarat is fully 5G enabled. This will make Gujarat a leader in digital data platform and in AI adoption. Thirdly, Reliance Retail will expand its footprint to bring quality products and help lakhs of farmers and small merchants. Fourthly, Reliance will make Gujarat a pioneer in new materials and circular economy. The group is establishing a world class carbon fiber facility at Hazira. Finally, He said in accordance with the Prime Minister’s announcement of intention to bid for the 2036 Olympics, Reliance and Reliance foundation will join forces with several other partners to work to improve the sporting, education and skills infrastructure in Gujarat.
Suzuki announces Rs 38,200 crore investments
Japanese carmaker Suzuki Motor Corporation announced its plans to invest Rs 3,200 crore in Gujarat to add a new production line of 2.5 lakh units per year at its existing plant. The company also plans to invest Rs 35,000 crore for a second car manufacturing plant in the state, as revealed by Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation. The leading carmaker also aims to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) from the Gujarat plant within 2024.
