Uttarakhand Monsoon Disrupts Traffic as NH-707A Washes Away Near Dimta Bend

The CSR Journal Magazine

The ongoing heavy monsoon rains in Uttarakhand have caused significant damage to the region’s road infrastructure, specifically affecting National Highway-707A. According to Tehri Garhwal District Disaster Management Officer Brijesh Bhatt, the highway has been fully washed away beyond Dimta Bend. This washout has triggered the closure of NH-707A between Dimta Bend and Jeevan Ashram.

Vehicles are currently being redirected through Mussoorie Bend towards Vikasnagar as an alternative route, exacerbating the traffic situation in the area. Local authorities are working to inform the public about the changes and the ongoing issues caused by the inclement weather.

NH-07 Blocked Near Devprayag Due to Debris

In addition to the challenges presented by the closure of NH-707A, NH-07 has experienced blockage near Devprayag along the Rishikesh-Kirtinagar route. This disruption is attributed to the accumulation of debris, limiting vehicular movement in the region.

Furthermore, the continuous rainfall has led to the closure of eight roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and seven roads managed by the Public Works Department (PWD). The heavy accumulation of debris has made these roads unsafe for travel.

The region is on high alert as the steep terrain of the hilly areas in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal division faces persistent rainfall. The weather conditions have significantly affected daily life and led to increased vigilance from local authorities as they prepare for possible further disruptions.

Authorities Issue Safety Warnings Amid Heavy Rainfall

In light of the heightened water levels in major rivers across the area, local authorities have issued advisories for public safety. Residents are being urged to remain cautious and avoid riverbanks as the water levels rise, particularly in the Tamsa, Tons, and Asan rivers. The Rispana River is also reported to be flowing rapidly due to the rainfall in the mountainous areas.

According to reports, several areas within the region have encountered daily rainfall totals exceeding 200 mm. The sustained rainfall raises significant concerns regarding potential damage to roadways and essential structures. Authorities have reinforced the need for residents and pilgrims to adhere to safety instructions, particularly if their travel is temporarily halted.

In addition to advising local residents, authorities are focusing on the safety of pilgrims participating in the Char Dham Yatra. Travellers have been instructed to stay in designated safe areas during periods of restricted movement and to follow guidance from local officials regarding weather and road conditions. Arrangements have been devised to manage pilgrims effectively in cases where travel is interrupted due to adverse weather.
