Uttarakhand CM Engages with Jal Shakti Minister to Discuss Haridwar Kumbh 2027 Initiatives

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a recent courtesy meeting in New Delhi, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil to discuss the upcoming Mahakumbh scheduled for Haridwar in 2027. During the meeting, both leaders reviewed important projects related to the Namami Gange programme, aimed at cleaning the river and ensuring a sustainable approach for the mega event.

Chief Minister Dhami emphasised the need for prompt approval of projects totalling Rs 408.82 crore under the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). He articulated the significance of these initiatives in facilitating a well-organized and environmentally conscious Kumbh Mela. The event is anticipated to attract millions of pilgrims from India and other countries from January to April 2027, making the maintenance of the Ganga’s cleanliness and purity a paramount concern.

Additionally, the Chief Minister sought approval for various proposals worth Rs 253 crore aimed at enhancing flood protection, securing further funding under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and expanding existing infrastructure like the Iqbalpur canal system, as well as the Kankhal and Jagjitpur canals. These developments are expected to enable the availability of 665 cusecs of water for irrigation, particularly benefiting the Bhagwanpur and Laksar regions of Haridwar district.

The anticipated projects aim to irrigate approximately 13,000 hectares of previously unirrigated land, thereby addressing local agricultural needs and improving drinking water supplies in the area. CM Dhami expressed confidence that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and support from the Central Government, the Haridwar Kumbh 2027 would attain a grand scale while reinforcing efforts aimed at Ganga conservation.

Further, CM Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the Central Government for allocating Rs 500 crore specifically for the Kumbh Mela preparations. He indicated that these resources will enhance infrastructure, sanitation measures, security, and facilities for pilgrims, contributing to an impressive and well-managed event.
