On March 6, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Tehri Lake Festival. The event underscores key themes such as tourism, adventure sports, environmental consciousness, and cultural heritage. During the inauguration, the Chief Minister expressed optimism that Tehri Lake could transform into both a national and international hub for adventure sports and tourism in the foreseeable future.

Infrastructure Developments Announced

At the festival’s opening, Dhami announced plans for the construction of the Koti Colony-New Tehri ropeway. He welcomed athletes and guests from various parts of India and abroad, emphasizing that the region, referred to as Devbhoomi, represents a unique blend of spirituality and folk traditions. “The scenic beauty of our mountains and lakes continues to attract visitors globally,” he stated, highlighting the festival’s importance in unifying tourism, sports, and local culture.

Tehri Lake as an Adventure Sports Destination

The Chief Minister remarked on Tehri Lake’s exemplary natural beauty and its trajectory towards becoming a prominent site for adventure sports. He noted that national and international water sports competitions are enhancing Uttarakhand’s visibility on the global sports map and offering athletes opportunities to demonstrate their skills.

Government Initiatives for Youth Empowerment

Dhami outlined the government’s vision to develop Tehri as a center for water and adventure sports. Initiatives are in place to promote activities like kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, parasailing, and scuba diving at Tehri Lake. The state is also working on modern training facilities aimed at empowering young athletes to excel in national and international competitions.

Economic Growth and Development Projects

The Chief Minister conveyed that the expanding sports and tourism ecosystem around Tehri Lake is generating self-employment and economic opportunities for local communities. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming Tehri Lake into not only a tourist attraction but also a global epicenter where sports, culture, and nature intersect.

Focus on Youth Innovation and Training

Emphasizing the importance of youth engagement, Dhami encouraged young individuals to proactively create opportunities with their skills and dedication. He shared that over 400 young residents are currently undergoing training in paragliding, which he views as a source of pride. He conveyed confidence in their potential to elevate Uttarakhand’s status in the global paragliding community.

Investment in Development Infrastructure

During his address, the Chief Minister highlighted various infrastructure projects taking place in the Tehri region, noting that over Rs 1300 crore is being invested in the area’s development. Key projects include improvements to Tehri Lake, development of a ring road, and the establishment of Timad village as a tourism destination. Sunargaon Gram Panchayat is also being developed as a model village, which includes constructing a new Anganwadi building in traditional hill architecture.

Virtual Foundation Stone Laying for New Roads

In addition, the Chief Minister launched the foundation stone for the Koti-Dobra tourism road, funded by the Asian Development Bank at a cost of Rs 318 crore. This road will span approximately 15 kilometers and enhance connectivity in the region.
