Uttar Pradesh Govt Establishes 7,713 Cow Shelters in 8 Years

The Uttar Pradesh government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has made remarkable strides in animal welfare. The government is majorly focusing on animal welfare with a special focus on cow protection.

Since assuming office in 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has prioritized the welfare of cattle. The initiative has reshaped Uttar Pradesh’s identity with a strong emphasis on compassion and cultural commitment.

7,713 cow shelters established

According to data, over the past eight years, the state has set a new benchmark by establishing 7,713 cow shelters. These shelters provide care and protection to more than 16 lakh stray cattle. The state’s efforts reflect not only administrative will but also a deep-rooted reverence for the cow. This has also reinforced UP’s leadership in animal welfare and gau seva.

Mukhyamantri Sahbhagita Yojana

Furthermore, in order to strengthen the initiative, the Mukhyamantri Sahbhagita Yojana has empowered local farmers and livestock keepers. Through this scheme, 2,37,369 cattle have been handed over to willing individuals. This has also helped the caretakers to contribute for animal welfare while also boosting the rural economy through sustainable livestock rearing.

Notably, the government’s efforts for cow protection are being widely appreciated across the country. Known for its inclusive governance model, the Uttar Pradesh government has also shown deep concern for animal welfare. Along with sheltering stray cattle, the government has launched a large-scale vaccination campaign to protect the health of animals.

Vaccination Campaign

Under the UP government’s vaccination campaign, a total of 14.5 crore animals have been vaccinated. This also includes 1.92 crore animals vaccinated against lumpy skin disease.

In addition, a toll-free helpline (1962) has been set up to provide free veterinary support. This initiative has proven to be a lifeline for livestock owners by improving both animal health and productivity.

Incentive-based Schemes

In order to encourage public participation, the government has launched several incentive-based schemes. The programs like the Mukhyamantri Pragatisheel Pashupalak Protsahan Yojana.

Also the Swadeshi Govansh Sanvardhan Yojana have shown new paths to livestock farmers. Under the Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, the government provides a 50% subsidy for setting up dairy units.

Direct Benefit Transfer

The cow shelters receive Rs 1,500 per month per animal (Rs 50 per day) to ensure proper care, through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). These initiatives have helped boost the income of livestock-rearing families and promoted self-reliance in rural areas.

Together, these efforts mark a significant step toward cow protection and the growth of the dairy sector in Uttar Pradesh, setting an example for the rest of the country.
