Dhirendra Shastri’s Remarks on Ram and Krishna Face Backlash in MP

The CSR Journal Magazine

Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, a prominent figure from Bageshwar Dham, has sparked controversy due to his alleged remarks comparing Lord Ram and Lord Krishna during a religious event in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh. The comments have been met with significant backlash from the Yadav community, prompting them to approach the police in Gwalior to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the spiritual leader. This incident has raised concerns regarding the potential impact on social harmony.

According to the Yadav Samaj (Yaduvanshi) Sangathan Madhya Pradesh, Shastri’s remarks were made during a Katha held from October 30 to November 1, 2026. The organisation claims that he compared the two deities using terms such as “small and big” and “crooked and straight,” suggesting that Lord Krishna’s actions were trivialised. They argue that such comments could hurt the sentiments of millions of devotees who revere Lord Krishna as a central figure in Sanatan culture.

In light of these allegations, the Yadav Samaj submitted a formal application to the Gwalior Superintendent of Police, requesting an investigation into Shastri’s remarks and the registration of an FIR. The community’s leaders expressed their concerns that such statements from a public platform could disrupt social harmony and provoke unrest among followers of both deities.

Akhilesh Yadav Calls for Accountability

The controversy has garnered attention from political figures, notably Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav. On Tuesday, he condemned the alleged remarks about Lord Ram’s father and demanded that all events featuring individuals making such statements be cancelled. Yadav shared a video clip on X, where Shastri allegedly stated, “Ramji had five fathers,” which he described as difficult to accept.

Yadav did not explicitly name Shastri but questioned the motivations behind such “anti-Sanatan” comments. He expressed concern over the implications of these remarks, suggesting they could disturb social harmony. He demanded clarity on who might be supporting these controversial statements and warned that unchecked comments could lead to societal discord.

In his statement, Yadav emphasised that true followers of Sanatan Dharma should reject such remarks and called for the cancellation of events featuring those responsible for the comments. He reiterated the need for accountability and urged individuals claiming to represent Sanatan traditions to denounce the alleged remarks.

Shastri Responds to Allegations

In response to the uproar, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri addressed the controversy during a gathering in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. He claimed that his remarks had been misinterpreted and clarified that his intention was not to create divisions between the two revered deities. Shastri referred to the video that incited the backlash, stating that it was an emotional expression of his feelings towards Lord Ram and Lord Krishna.

Shastri expressed disappointment over the misinterpretation of his words, asserting that the comments were taken out of context. He emphasised that his intention was to convey a sense of reverence and love for both deities, rather than to compare them unfavourably.

Despite Shastri’s clarification, the controversy remains unresolved, with calls for punitive action continuing from various quarters. Akhilesh Yadav had previously demanded that the matter be addressed at the highest levels of governance, highlighting the need for sensitivity in discussions surrounding religious figures.
