A very shocking case of alleged murder has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district. A 62-year-old retired Army soldier, Devendra Kumar was murdered brutally by his wife and her lover. His wife, Maya Devi, a 50-year-old woman, has been arrested along with her 44-year-old lover, Anil Yadav. Along with two other associates of Anil Yadav for the brutal killing of Devendra Kumar, a retired Army soldier.
According to a Police report, the accused allegedly murdered Kumar. They dismembered his body by chopping it into six pieces. The group then disposed of the chopped pieces at various locations along a riverbank in an attempt to conceal the crime.
Victim’s body parts discovered
However, the gruesome crime could not be hidden for long. The incident came to light on Saturday when police recovered the chopped body parts in the area. Severed hands and legs wrapped in polythene near Khareed village were found by the police. Following the initial investigation, the victim was identified as Devendra Kumar.
Upon revelation the victim’s wife Maya Devi was questioned by the police. However, she attempted to mislead the police by filing a missing person’s report on May 10th. She claimed that her husband had gone to pick up their daughter. She alleged that he went to a railway station in Bihar and never returned.
The police investigation of the matter soon took a dramatic turn. This comes as the couple’s daughter, Ambli Gautam, bravely testified against her mother. Ambli accused her mother of her father’s murder. Based on her crucial testimony, Maya Devi was booked for murder and taken into custody.
Lover and Accomplices Apprehended, Weapon Recovered
Soon the Police began a full fledged investigation into the matter revealing that Maya Devi allegedly conspired with her lover. Her lover, Anil Yadav reportedly is a truck driver. Along with them, two other men, identified as Satish Yadav and Mithilesh Patel were involved in carrying out the heinous crime.
Furthermore, the Police stated that the group allegedly murdered Devendra Kumar inside his residence in Bahadurpur. The group dismembered his body into six parts, including severing the arms, legs, and head. The body parts were then scattered in different locations to hinder identification and mislead the Police.
Victim’s torso found in well
According to the information given by Maya Devi, police recovered the victim’s torso from a well in Khareed Darauli village. During a vehicle check, police apprehended Anil Yadav and Satish Yadav near Town Polytechnic on Tuesday. However, during the arrest the accused allegedly fired at the police team. This led to a retaliatory firing in which Anil Yadav sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He is currently receiving treatment at a government hospital in the city.
Following this, the Police recovered a country-made pistol, a spent cartridge, and a live round from Anil Yadav. The alleged murder weapon was recovered from the accused Satish Yadav. Mithilesh Patel had been arrested the previous day.
Extramarital Affair Motive Suspected
Omveer Singh, the Superintendent of Police told reporters that the motive behind the murder appears to be Maya Devi’s extramarital affair with Anil Yadav.
SP Omvir Singh said, “On May 10, a woman filed a missing person report, claiming her husband had gone to Buxar to pick up their daughter but never returned. However, an investigation revealed that the husband’s phone location never left the original area and was never traced to Buxar.”
He further said, “As the investigation progressed, it was found that the woman was allegedly involved in an extramarital affair, and the murder was carried out in collaboration with her partner and accomplices. A total of four individuals, including the wife, have been arrested.”
“The victim was brutally murdered, dismembered into six pieces, and the body parts were scattered across different locations. The head has not yet been recovered, and search efforts are still underway,” Omvir Singh said.
Series of Similar Brutal Crimes in Uttar Pradesh
Well, this is not a new such incident, this disturbing incident is the latest in a series of similarly brutal spousal murders that have occurred in Uttar Pradesh in recent months. These incidents are raising serious concerns about the increasing trend of such violent crimes in the state. These include cases in Meerut, Deoria, and Auraiya, where individuals were allegedly murdered and their bodies disposed of in gruesome ways by their spouses and their lovers.
As of now, all four accused individuals are currently in police custody, and a thorough investigation is underway. Furthermore, the police divers are continuing their search in the Ghaghara river to locate the victim’s missing head.
