UPSC CSE Mains 2026: DAF Application Window Opens

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has begun accepting the Detailed Application Form (DAF) for candidates who have successfully passed the Civil Services Preliminary Examination for the year 2026. Eligible candidates may submit their DAF through the official UPSC portal, upsconline.nic.in, from June 19 to June 28, 2026.

This submission is essential for candidates aiming to participate in the Main Examination. Only those who complete this step will be permitted to progress in the selection process.

Overview of Shortlisted Candidates and Examination Details

On June 15, the Commission released the Prelims results in a roll number-wise format, followed by a name-wise result list on June 17. A total of 13,343 candidates have been selected to sit for the Civil Services Main Examination, designed to fill 1,016 vacancies outlined in the 2026 recruitment cycle.

Completing the DAF is a critical part of the recruitment process, and inadequate submission may eliminate a candidate’s opportunity to appear for the Main Examination.

Candidates should carefully provide their details, as the data included in the DAF significantly informs subsequent stages of recruitment. Adherence to guidelines is strongly advised.

Important Submission Instructions for Candidates

During the DAF submission, candidates must relay their personal information, discharge the relevant examination fee, update necessary scribes details, and request any required assistive measures, such as large-font question papers for candidates with benchmark disabilities.

Additionally, candidates will need to indicate their cadre preferences in this stage. The UPSC emphasises the importance of ensuring all information is accurate and complete, as this will affect future recruitment processes.

Notably, female candidates, those from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are exempt from the examination fee, while others are required to pay a fee of Rs 200 during application.

e-Admit Cards and Deadline Alerts

The UPSC has clarified that e-Admit Cards for the 2026 Civil Services Main Examination will only be generated following the successful submission of the DAF by candidates. It is crucial that they adhere to the submission deadline of June 28, 2026.

Candidates who do not complete their applications in this time frame will be ineligible to participate in the Main Examination. The Commission warns that delays could result in missing out on this further stage of selection.

With a nine-day submission window available, candidates are encouraged to finish the DAF process well ahead of the deadline to mitigate potential last-minute complications or mistakes. Timeliness in submission remains vital for all candidates intent on advancing in the Civil Services Examination for 2026.
