Filmmaker and host Rohit Shetty has responded to safety concerns raised after backlash over the tasks in Khatron Ke Khiladi 15. In a recent interview, Shetty emphasised that the challenges are designed to push contestants to their limits, executed under the supervision of skilled professionals and adhering to comprehensive safety protocols. His remarks are a direct reaction to criticism that surfaced following a specific stunt involving rubber bullets which reportedly left contestants Gaurav Khanna and Karan Wahi with severe bruises.

In an interview with Variety India, Shetty stated, “Safety has always been our first priority on KKK15.” He reiterated that each stunt is carefully crafted and managed to ensure participant safety, incorporating his extensive experience in action. This insistence on safety comes as the show has faced heightened scrutiny due to the physical demands placed on contestants, particularly in light of recent injuries.

Details of Challenging Stunts Spark Controversy

The controversy was escalated when contestants Gaurav Khanna, Vishal Aditya Singh, Shagun Sharma, and Karan Wahi performed a stunt that resulted in several injuries. During the episode, Shetty introduced a challenge known as the ‘Fear Fanda’, aimed at contestants who are at risk of elimination. Selected participants were required to execute an elimination stunt, with Khanna and Sharma representing the new group and Wahi along with Singh representing the previous batch.

Shagun Sharma struggled significantly during the stunt, leading her to tears due to the pain endured. Fellow contestant Jasmin Bhasin showed support, encouraging her not to push her limits dangerously. Bhasin articulated that it was essential for her to prioritise her wellbeing rather than succumb to pressure. This incident highlights the ongoing psychological and physical strain faced by contestants on the show.

In a subsequent week, four other contestants, including Rubina Dilaik and Harsh Gujral, faced an elimination task focused on pain endurance, where they had to endure hot wax poured on their hands for a duration of ten minutes. The contestant gathering the most wax would avoid elimination, further intensifying the sense of challenge.

As safety concerns were raised, Banijay CEO Deepak Dhar intervened, asserting that the show adheres to rigorous international safety standards. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he declared, “It’s not at all brutal. Well, there is an element of fear. It’s called Fear Factor for a reason.” He stressed the importance of safety measures during production, underscoring that the programme has been produced for multiple seasons and takes safety protocols earnestly regardless of the location.

Participants this season also include Avinash Mishra, Farrhana Bhat, Avika Gor, Orhan Awatramani, Rithvik Dhanjani, and others.
