The Azim Premji Foundation has announced the initiation of the Azim Premji Scholarship for girls in the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT). The program aims to provide financial assistance to up to 20,000 girls this academic year, enabling them to pursue higher education.

Each selected student will receive an annual scholarship of INR 30,000, supporting them from their first year of college until the completion of an undergraduate degree or diploma. Depending on the length of their course, which can vary from two to five years, a recipient could receive up to INR 1.5 lakh. The funds can be utilized for college fees and other education-related costs.

Launched in 2024, the scholarship is open to girls who have completed their schooling in one of 21 states and union territories, including Delhi (NCT), Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

To qualify, applicants must have completed Class 10 and Class 12 in a government school within the designated states or union territories, and have secured admission to the first year of an undergraduate degree or diploma course at a recognized institution anywhere in India.

The Foundation has set a goal of supporting up to 500,000 girls across India annually. Given that most undergraduate programs last approximately three years, the organization anticipates that around 1.5 million girls could benefit from the Azim Premji Scholarship program at any given time. Since the scholarship’s inception, over 190,000 girls have already received support.

The application process for the Azim Premji Scholarship is fully online and free of charge, with submissions being accepted exclusively through the official Azim Premji Foundation website.

Anurag Behar, CEO of the Azim Premji Foundation, emphasized the importance of equitable opportunities for girls, stating, “Girls will have a greater influence on the future of our country and our society’s well-being — more than any other demographic group. So, we must ensure equitable opportunities for them in all spheres. Higher education is one of the most important of these spheres — it is an enabler of lifelong empowerment. Our scholarship directly addresses some of the barriers that girls continue to confront in accessing higher education.”

The Azim Premji Foundation is dedicated to fostering a just, equitable, humane, and sustainable society. Its initiatives span education, health, and various areas of social development, collaborating with governments, institutions, civil society organizations, and communities across India.
