UP Launches Plantation Drive with Geo-Tagging for Real-Time Sapling Monitoring

In a landmark environmental initiative under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to organize the ‘Plantation Mega Campaign–2025’ on July 9. As part of the drive, a record 37 crore saplings will be planted across the state under the banner of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

Tree planting

But the goal is not just to set new records in tree planting. CM Yogi’s vision goes beyond the numbers. This year’s campaign introduces a transformative approach by integrating geo-tagging technology for every planted sapling and plantation site. This digital tagging will enable real-time monitoring of each tree’s growth, health, and location using the support of the Forest Department and other institutional partners.

To ensure the long-term survival of the saplings, the campaign will also deploy T-guards and other modern protective tools aimed at increasing sapling longevity and shielding them from environmental threats.

Geo-tagging technology

An official from the Forest Department explained that with the help of geo-tagging, a digital record will be created for every sapling and plantation site. This will make it easier to track the condition of the plants even after plantation and take timely action for their care and protection.

The geo-tagging technology will not only simplify plant maintenance but also increase transparency and accountability in the campaign. Additionally, T-guards and other modern tools will be used to help protect the saplings.

Plantation Campaign 2025

The Plantation Campaign 2025 is also being promoted as a symbol of community participation. The Forest Department has partnered with businesses, social organizations, and educational institutions to make the campaign a success. These institutions are also helping by providing T-guards and other protective equipment to ensure the healthy growth of the saplings.
