Indian boxer Jadumani Singh advanced to the next stage of the Asian Games 2026 by achieving a unanimous win over Nepal’s Chandra Bahadur Thapa. The match, held on September 22, concluded with a decisive score of 5-0, demonstrating Jadumani’s strong performance throughout the rounds.

The opening round featured an aggressive start from both boxers, with Thapa aiming to land several punches. However, many of his attempts failed to hit their mark. Jadumani strategically picked his shots, resulting in a closely contested exchange. While Thapa managed to connect a solid left hook, four out of five judges awarded the round to Jadumani, reflecting his tactical approach and scoring it 4-1.

Progression to the Next Round

In the second round, Jadumani exhibited a marked improvement, landing several impactful punches which visibly pressured his opponent. Thapa began to show signs of fatigue as Jadumani maintained his offensive strategy. The Indian boxer continued with precision, again taking the round with a score of 4-1, thus establishing a strong lead heading into the final segment of the match.

The final round saw Jadumani uphold his dominance in the ring. A notable left hook resulted in a standing count against Thapa, clearly indicating the Indian’s control over the bout. While deftly evading Thapa’s larger punches, Jadumani delivered another effective counter, further extending his advantage. The match concluded with a unanimous score of 5-0 in Jadumani’s favour, securing his place in the Round of 16.

Other Highlights from the Asian Games

Aside from boxing, Indian athletes have shown commendable performance across various sports during the Asian Games 2026. Notably, the women’s cricket team secured India’s first gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final match. This victory marked a significant achievement for the team in the continental competition.

In the women’s 51kg boxing category, Sakshi Chaudhary progressed in the Round of 32 by defeating Aira Villegas from the Philippines. Jadumani’s success complements this as he moves forward to compete against other challengers in the boxing event.

In shooting events, the team comprising Elavenil Valarivan and Parth Mane placed fourth in the mixed team final of the 10m air rifle competition. The men’s skeet qualification saw Anantjeet Singh Naruka in second position, while the women’s skeet saw Raiza Dhillon finishing fifth. Such results highlight the potential across different sports for Indian participants.

In addition to boxing and shooting, the Indian women’s table tennis team narrowly defeated Thailand 3-2 but faced a loss to the Republic of Korea in the men’s competition. Athlete performances extend to fencing, badminton, and soft tennis, showcasing diverse talent within the Indian contingent.

The Indian men’s kabaddi team also secured a considerable victory over South Korea with a score of 63-31 in Group A, while the sepaktakraw team faced challenges, losing to Malaysia. The games continue to unfold at the Asian Games, presenting further opportunities for medals and showcasing athletic prowess.
