The sudden death of popular Jodhpur-based kathavachak Sadhvi Prem Baisa has left behind a trail of unanswered questions, with investigators now trying to piece together a sequence of events that has puzzled doctors, police, and the public alike.
Sadhvi Prem Baisa was rushed from her Boranada ashram to a private hospital on Wednesday evening by her father and another aide. By the time she arrived, however, doctors found no signs of life. Hospital records place her arrival at around 5:30 pm, when she was formally declared brought dead.
Dr. Praveen Jain of Preksha Hospital said the medical team attempted to revive her but observed no bodily movement. According to him, her father, Veeram Nath, informed the doctors that she had been suffering from fever and that a compounder had been called to the ashram earlier in the day. “The compounder then gave her an injection, after which she became unconscious,” Dr. Jain said.
Hospital authorities advised that the body be shifted to a government hospital for mandatory legal procedures, including a post-mortem examination. An ambulance was offered for the transfer, but the suggestion was declined. “The hospital also offered an ambulance, but Sadhvi’s father refused the ambulance and insisted on transporting the body in a private vehicle,” the doctor added.
Later, speaking to NDTV, Veeram Nath reiterated that his daughter had been unwell for some time. “That’s why we called a compounder to the ashram. But five minutes after the injection, she became unconscious,” he said.
Investigation Ongoing
Police officials confirmed that the compounder involved has since been detained and his medical equipment seized. ACP (West) Chhavi Sharma said the matter is under investigation and that no conclusions would be drawn until all evidence, including medical reports, is examined.
What has intensified suspicion surrounding the case is a post uploaded to Sadhvi Prem Baisa’s Instagram account at 9:28 pm, nearly four hours after doctors declared her dead. The long message, posted from her verified handle, is being widely interpreted as a farewell note.
“I have lived every single moment for the propagation of Sanatan Dharma… Throughout my life, I received the blessings of Adi Jagadguru Shankaracharya, the world’s yoga gurus, and revered saints and sages. I wrote letters to Adi Guru Shankaracharya and many great saints and sages of the country, requesting a trial by fire, but what did nature have in store? I am bidding farewell to this world forever, but I have complete faith in God and the revered saints and sages. If not in my lifetime, then after my death, I will surely receive justice,” the post read.
Veeram Nath later acknowledged that the message had been shared using his daughter’s phone. “A fellow guru maharaj sent the message,” he said, while also demanding that authorities investigate the circumstances of her death thoroughly.
Hanuman Beniwal Flags Sadhvi Prem Baisa Death as Suspicious
The developments have drawn political attention as well. Rashtriya Loktantrik Party MP Hanuman Beniwal termed the death suspicious and called on the state leadership to intervene.
“A high-level investigation should be conducted into this matter,” he said, urging Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and the Rajasthan DGP to take cognisance of the case.
The incident has also revived memories of a controversy involving the Sadhvi last year, when a video showing her hugging her father went viral on social media. The clip, which also showed another woman briefly entering the room, sparked public debate. Sadhvi Prem Baisa had dismissed the allegations, saying the footage was an attempt to distort a father-daughter relationship. Police later arrested one person for circulating the video.
As of now, police say no formal complaint has been lodged by the family. A post-mortem examination is underway, and officials maintain that the cause of death will only be clear once the medical report is received.
Until then, the circumstances surrounding the death of Sadhvi Prem Baisa continue to raise troubling questions from the injection administered at the ashram to the unexplained timing of her final social media post.
