Ujjain is preparing for a large-scale mass lamp lighting event along the ghats of the Shipra River, coinciding with the celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on Thursday evening. The initiative is part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, which aims to involve community members in a significant way. The mass lighting is set to commence at approximately 7 pm.

Ujjain District Collector Raushan Kumar Singh announced that more than 30 lakh lamps will be lit during this event, with the involvement of over 30,000 volunteers. He highlighted the collective spirit of the initiative, emphasising its role in fostering social participation and public engagement.

The programme is expected to include appearances by notable figures such as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and BJP National President Nitin Nabin. The evening’s activities will kick off with the ceremonial lighting of the lamps, marking a festive occasion for the local community.

Cultural Performances to Feature During the Event

Collector Singh also shared that the evening will showcase a variety of cultural programmes, enhancing the festive atmosphere. Attendees can look forward to devotional music and fusion performances that aim to resonate with the diverse audience present.

Among the highlights, there will be bhajan jamming sessions, which have gained popularity among younger participants. Additionally, a presentation dedicated to Lord Mahakal will feature various fusion art forms, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage, followed by vocal performances that celebrate the essence of the occasion.

The event will also include a narrative centred on Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Seva Sankalp’, underlining the importance of service and community involvement, concluding with a grand fireworks display that promises to mesmerise the audience.

Wide-Reaching Impact of the ‘Seva Sankalp Campaign’

The ‘Seva Sankalp Campaign’ will host the Deepotsav across eight sectors within the Ujjain district, encompassing six ghats alongside the Kshipra River, as well as Mahakal Lok and Kartik Mela Ground. The initiative aspires to illuminate more than 30 lakh lamps across these locations, making it a landmark event in the region.

To ensure an organised approach, the eight sectors will be subdivided into 13,500 blocks, with each block containing 225 lamps. Volunteers have been assigned to each block, tasked with the responsibility of lighting these lamps, ensuring collective community involvement.

In his remarks, Collector Singh encouraged local citizens to actively partake in the celebrations, underscoring the importance of community contribution in making the event a success. By inviting participation in various forms, the event aims to bolster the sense of unity and togetherness among the residents of Ujjain.
