TVK Sulur Candidate Criticizes AIADMK and DMK Ahead of Elections for Misleading Voters

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate for the Sulur assembly constituency, Sukumaran, expressed confidence in his party’s success in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. Upon arriving in Coimbatore from Chennai, he received a warm reception from party supporters. In statements to the media, Sukumaran accused both the AIADMK and DMK of misleading the electorate.

Addressing Local Issues

Sukumaran highlighted various long-standing issues affecting constituents in the Sulur area. Prominent among these are the plight of powerloom workers struggling to settle electricity bills, the desilting of the Sulur lake, which has reportedly been neglected for over two decades, and the urgent need to restore the Noyyal river. He emphasized that TVK intends to prioritize these concerns if elected.

Confidence in Independent Contest

Confident about his electoral prospects, Sukumaran remarked that his chances of winning are “bright.” He stated that the TVK holds strength not just in Sulur but across all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu. Although TVK is contesting independently, he noted that the DMK and AIADMK have formed alliances with 24 and 10 other parties, respectively. He explained that the coalition of 34 parties against TVK illustrates the strength and resolve of his party.

Skepticism Towards Established Parties

Challenging the narrative of the AIADMK’s dominance, Sukumaran described Sulur as a “falling bastion” for the party. He accused both major Dravidian parties of engaging in vote buying and misleading the public for the past five years, which he claims has alienated voters from their representatives. He asserted that the foundation of TVK is centered around combating corruption and expressed optimism that citizens are increasingly disenchanted with the traditional parties, making them more receptive to his party’s message.

Criticism of Election Commission and Internal Party Dynamics

In his critique, he raised concerns about the Election Commission’s effectiveness in controlling the distribution of freebies during the election period. Speaking from personal experience as someone from a traditional DMK family, he stated that individuals committed to integrity are undervalued within the DMK. Sukumaran accused the party of evolving into a “corporate structure,” with rising levels of corruption.

Political Positioning of Rivals

Touching upon recent political developments, Sukumaran specifically criticized DMK leader V Senthil Balaji for deciding to contest from Coimbatore rather than from Karur. He drew parallels to previous comments made about K Annamalai, suggesting that Senthil Balaji lacks the credibility needed to criticize his opponent. Additionally, he accused him of prioritizing personal political aspirations over the interests of the party.
