The CSR Journal Magazine

The success of “Tumbbad,” directed by Sohum Shah, has solidified its status as a notable film in the Hindi horror genre, earning a dedicated fanbase over the years. Initially released in 2018, the film saw a re-release in 2024, becoming the second highest-grossing Indian film during such an event. This resurgence has spurred excitement among audiences for the upcoming sequel, “Tumbbad 2,” which is now officially in the works.

Expansive Set in Development

As production for “Tumbbad 2” approaches, reports indicate that the creative team is aiming for a more ambitious and expansive project compared to its predecessor. A substantial set, spanning approximately 7 to 8 acres, is currently under construction in Mumbai to facilitate the film’s first shooting schedule. Details about the film’s narrative remain largely under wraps, although it has been confirmed that Sohum Shah will reprise his role from the original film.

Production Collaboration

The sequel is produced by Sohum Shah Films in partnership with Pen Studios, a prominent production house led by veteran filmmaker Dr. Jayantilal Gada. Noted for its support of significant cinematic projects including “RRR” and “Gangubai Kathiawadi,” Pen Studios brings a wealth of experience to this collaboration, setting high expectations for the quality and scale of “Tumbbad 2.” The film is scheduled to commence production later this year, further intensifying interest among fans and industry observers alike.

Transformative Design Elements

The creative team is also working on innovative design aspects for the sequel. Shaune Harrison, the prosthetic designer for “Tumbbad 2,” has hinted at a character that will undergo multiple transformations throughout the film, with plans for three distinct looks. This attention to detail in character design indicates the makers’ commitment to enhancing the visual and thematic depth of the sequel.
