In a heartbreaking incident on Sunday, a vehicle carrying 15 passengers plunged into a canal in the Gonda district, leading to the death of eleven individuals, including children. The group was on their way to the Prithvinath Temple to perform religious rituals.
The mishap occurred near Belwa Bahuta, within the jurisdiction of Itia Thok Police Station. According to police officials, the Bolero vehicle lost control while traveling from Sihagaon village toward the temple located in Khargupur. Rescue teams, aided by local villagers, retrieved eleven bodies from the submerged vehicle. Four others survived but are in serious condition and have been rushed to nearby medical facilities.
The deceased have been sent for postmortem examinations as authorities investigate the circumstances of the accident.
CM Yogi Announces Compensation to the Victims Families
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed profound grief over the loss and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families affected. “The loss of life in the unfortunate accident in the district of Gonda is extremely tragic and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the grief-stricken families,” he said. He further announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each family who lost a member in the accident.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to provide immediate medical care for the injured and to accelerate relief and rescue efforts. “I pray to Lord Shri Ram that the departed souls attain salvation, the bereaved families find the strength to bear this immense sorrow, and the injured recover swiftly. Om Shanti!,” he posted on X.
Authorities continue to coordinate relief operations at the site as investigations proceed.
