Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra has taken legal action in the Delhi High Court, requesting custody of her pet Rottweiler, Henry. The court has acknowledged her petition and issued a notice to the respondent, advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, seeking his response. The case was presided over by Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri, who scheduled the next hearing for April 29.
Challenge Against Saket Court Ruling
Moitra’s petition contests a Saket court ruling dated November 10, 2022, which denied her request for custody of Henry for ten days each month. During the court proceedings, Dehadrai argued for the dismissal of Moitra’s plea at the initial stage, citing insufficient grounds. The Saket court previously ruled against Moitra’s custody request, a decision she asserts is flawed both in law and in fact.
Details of Henry’s Custody Arrangement
According to the petition submitted by Moitra, Henry has predominantly lived with her, except during her official engagements outside Delhi. During those times, the Rottweiler stayed with Dehadrai. Moitra’s legal actions are part of an ongoing custody dispute regarding Henry, which has been under judicial scrutiny since the previous year.
Previous Proceedings in the Delhi High Court
In September of the prior year, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to Moitra concerning an appeal brought forth by Dehadrai. This appeal was related to an order from a trial court that instructed Dehadrai not to disclose details pertaining to the custody matter. Justice Manoj Jain presided over that session, assigning the responsibility to Moitra to submit her response.
Nature of the Dispute
The central issue revolves around the custody of Henry, a dog that was purchased by Dehadrai in 2021. Moitra has filed a custody suit against him, marking a significant legal battle over the pet. The matter continues to remain unresolved in the Saket court, with both parties awaiting further proceedings.
