MHA Abolishes 34 CISF Posts at Patanjali Food & Herbal Park

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has mandated the removal of all 34 positions that were sanctioned for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Patanjali Food and Herbal Park Pvt Ltd in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. This decision follows the earlier withdrawal of security personnel from the facility on May 4, 2026. The order was formally issued in a letter to the CISF, detailing the steps necessary following this withdrawal.

According to the MHA’s directive, the 34 sanctioned posts consisted of an Assistant Commandant, four Sub-Inspectors, two Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 11 Head Constables, and 16 Constables. The formal notification regarding this decision came earlier this month, indicating that the structure of CISF manpower at the food park is effectively dissolved.

The government has also instructed the CISF to recover any outstanding dues owed to the CISF by the management of Patanjali Food and Herbal Park. This stipulation was included in the same communication that led to the posts’ abolition.

History of CISF Deployment at Patanjali

The CISF commenced its security operations at the Patanjali Food and Herbal Park in June 2015. This move was initiated following a violent incident in May 2015, during which a confrontation occurred between the establishment’s security personnel and local truck union supporters. This clash resulted in a fatality, prompting law enforcement to take action against ten individuals connected to the event, including a brother of yoga guru Ramdev.

The security arrangement was established as a response to the safety concerns raised after the clash, which involved the local community protesting against the park’s use of truck operators from outside Haridwar. Subsequently, the CISF provided round-the-clock security at the facility, with costs covered by the food park’s administration.

The MHA’s latest directives signify the end of CISF’s sanctioned personnel presence at the park, cutting ties that had lasted since 2015, with the CISF previously responsible for ensuring safety and order at the complex.

About the CISF

The CISF was established under the 50th Act of Parliament in 1968 and has evolved into a comprehensive Central Armed Police Force under the MHA. Originally comprising only 3,129 staff members, the force has expanded significantly and now numbers over 2.20 lakh active personnel nationwide.

The CISF is charged with safeguarding 361 critical national installations, including 70 airports, and is equipped to respond to security threats through 12 Reserve Battalions. Additionally, it operates eight modern training centres across the country, aiming to prepare its personnel for future challenges.

With the decision to abolish the posts at the Patanjali Food and Herbal Park, the MHA has taken a step that reflects broader changes within the security framework pertaining to private entities in India. The CISF remains a vital component of the nation’s security architecture, instrumental in maintaining safety in critical infrastructure across various sectors.
