A 16-year-old girl from Bihar has gone missing from a child care facility in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh. The child care helpline reportedly lost track of the teenager, identified as Putul Kumari. Both the supervisor of the facility and a police constable present during the incident have been charged in connection with her disappearance.

Authorities are still searching for Putul Kumari, and no leads have been found to trace her whereabouts as of yet. Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to locate the girl and assess the circumstances surrounding her exit from the facility.

Details of the Incident

Putul Kumari was brought to the child care facility located in the Okdenganj area by local police on the night of September 16, 2026. She was discovered missing prior to her admission, which involved intervention by sub-inspector Sunil Yadav and head constable Sinki Gond from Bairia police station. Reports indicate that the teen escaped on the morning of September 18, 2026, at around 11.15 am. She allegedly locked herself in a toilet and climbed out through a window.

A complaint regarding the incident was filed by District Probation Officer Dr Amarendra Kumar Paushayan, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) late on September 18, 2026. The FIR specifically charges both the facility’s supervisor, Shilpa, and the constable, Reema, under Section 261 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

The inquiry revealed that both Shilpa and Reema were on duty during the escape. In light of their alleged negligence, actions are being considered to terminate Shilpa’s employment at the facility.

Background of the Missing Teenager

Putul Kumari is originally from the Vaishali district in Bihar, and was reportedly found wandering in the Suremanpur area of Bairia just three days prior to her admission to the child care facility. The police have been gathering information on her past and the circumstances leading to her being brought to the facility.

The ongoing search efforts for the girl involve multiple units within the local police department. Investigators are also looking into the question of how a minor could leave a supposedly secure environment without being detected.

This incident has raised concerns regarding operational safeguards and oversight within child care institutions. Officials have committed to ensuring accountability and swift responses in similar future incidents as they continue their search for Putul Kumari.
