Teen Fatally Stabbed by Junior Outside Ahmedabad School; Protests Turn Violent

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 15-year-old Class 10 student from the Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in the Khokhra area of Ahmedabad died after being stabbed by a younger schoolmate. The incident, which occurred outside the school campus, has triggered widespread anger, leading to intense protests and vandalism at the school premises.

According to officials, the attack followed a previous altercation between the victim and the accused, a Class 8 student, which reportedly reignited after school hours near Maniyasha Society. As students were leaving for the day, a group of boys, including the accused, allegedly surrounded the victim. A heated argument quickly escalated, and one of the boys pulled out a knife and stabbed the Class 10 student before fleeing.

Despite his injury, the boy managed to walk back toward the school with his hand over the wound, as captured in CCTV footage. A security guard spotted his condition and immediately informed school authorities and the police. The boy was rushed to a private hospital in Maninagar, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Protest Turns Violent at Ahmedabad School

As news of the boy’s death spread, hundreds of people, including members of the Sindhi community, parents, and student activists, gathered at the school the next morning. The gathering quickly turned chaotic, with enraged protesters storming the premises, smashing school property, and reportedly attacking staff members.

Joint Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore addressed the allegations of administrative negligence, “Protestors are saying we have not registered an FIR. But we have filed the FIR, and the accused has been arrested. Protestors are stating there is some involvement of the school administration, about which we have told them to give us in writing so that we can submit it to the education department.”

The accused, a minor, has been arrested and placed in a juvenile facility. Police confirmed that an FIR for attempted murder had initially been registered, which would now likely be updated to reflect the victim’s death. The investigation has been handed over to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch following demands from the victim’s family.

Crime Branch Probes Wider Involvement

Crime Branch official Sharad Singhal stated, “Two accused, including a minor, who committed the offence, are in custody. Another adult accused has been found helping the minor. The victim’s family has alleged that seven teenagers were involved in the incident, which is being verified. Allegations of school operators trying to erase evidence by ordering a water tanker will also be probed. The murder weapon has been seized.”

The incident has raised serious concerns regarding student safety and the role of school authorities in handling conflicts. There have also been community tensions reported, as the victim was from the Sindhi community while the accused belongs to the Muslim community. The communal angle has further intensified the outrage.

In response to the unrest, a significant police presence has been deployed to the school to maintain order and prevent further escalation. Clashes between protestors and police were also reported during the height of the protest.

Education Minister Promises Strict Action

State Education Minister Prafulbhai Panseriya, while expressing his condolences to the grieving family, appealed to the public to maintain calm. He assured that strict action would be taken and hinted at broader policy interventions.

“Justice will be served,” he said, adding that the government might launch a study into the increasing trend of violent behaviour among children. He partially attributed the issue to “social media and games with a criminal mindset.”

As investigations continue, parents and community leaders are demanding accountability from the school management and a deeper look into how such a violent confrontation could take place between students.
