Teen Cricket Phenom Vaibhav Suryavanshi Meets PM Modi After Record-Breaking IPL Debut

A memorable moment unfolded at Patna Airport when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with rising cricket star Vaibhav Suryavanshi, just 14 years old, following the conclusion of his first season in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The young batter, who dazzled fans throughout the 2025 tournament, was accompanied by his family during the brief but heartwarming exchange. A video capturing the meeting shows the youngster respectfully greeting the Prime Minister, who in turn spoke warmly to the family.

Taking to social media after the encounter, PM Modi praised the teenager’s performance and potential. “At Patna airport, met the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family. His cricketing skills are being admired all over the nation! My best wishes to him for his future endeavours,” read the Prime Minister’s post on X.

Suryavanshi, a left-handed batter from Patna, had created a buzz even before the tournament began, having been bought by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.1 crore during the 2024 auction in Jeddah an extraordinary figure for someone just 13 years old at the time. He made his debut on April 19 against the Lucknow Super Giants, launching his IPL career with a six off his very first delivery from Shardul Thakur at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Suryavanshi Scores 252 Runs

Over the course of seven matches, Suryavanshi piled up 252 runs, averaging 36.00 and boasting a blistering strike rate of 206.55. His performances were marked by bold strokeplay and composure beyond his years, as he formed a powerful opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal.

One of the standout moments of the tournament occurred on April 28 in Jaipur, when Suryavanshi smashed 101 runs from just 38 balls against the Gujarat Titans. He not only became the youngest player to score a century in men’s T20 cricket but also set a new benchmark for the fastest IPL century by an Indian, reaching the milestone in only 35 deliveries.

That knock was historic for several reasons. His fifty came up in just 17 balls the fifth-fastest in IPL history and he finished with 11 sixes and 7 boundaries, accumulating 94 runs in boundaries alone. This translated to a 93% boundary rate, the highest ever recorded during a century in IPL matches. He also matched Murali Vijay’s Indian record for most sixes in an IPL innings, while still trailing Chris Gayle’s all-time record of 17 sixes.

Suryavanshi Sets Royals Partnership Record, Hits IPL Ton in 3rd Innings

His 166-run stand with Jaiswal in that game also set a new record for the Rajasthan Royals’ highest partnership for any wicket, surpassing the 155-run stand between Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal in 2022. According to Wisden, Suryavanshi reached his first IPL ton in just his third innings, faster than Punjab Kings’ Priyansh Arya and Paul Valthaty, both of whom took four innings.

Suryavanshi capped off his season with a composed 57 off 33 balls against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings on May 20 in New Delhi, although Rajasthan Royals failed to qualify for the playoffs. Despite the team’s early exit, his individual achievements have made him the breakout star of IPL 2025.

With such a remarkable entry into top-level cricket, the 14-year-old’s future appears incredibly bright. Fans, analysts, and even national leaders are now watching closely to see what the young sensation will achieve next.
