The CSR Journal Magazine

A nine-month-old infant tragically died after allegedly being thrown off a skywalk near Ghatkopar railway station by his father, Jafar Shaikh, during a domestic dispute. The incident occurred on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at approximately 8.15 pm. According to police reports, the altercation began when the child’s mother, Aarti Shaikh, was on the skywalk with her son.

Jafar arrived and a heated argument ensued over a personal matter. During the confrontation, it is reported that Jafar verbally abused Aarti. When she objected to his behaviour, he allegedly lost his temper and threw their son, Aarav, over the railing of the skywalk, which is situated about 20 feet above ground level.

Witnesses, including bystanders and shopkeepers, were left in shock as the infant fell to the ground, sustaining severe injuries. Local residents quickly rushed to assist the injured child. With the help of the police, Aarav was transported to Sion Hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the nine-month-old succumbed to his injuries during treatment, marking a tragic end to the incident.

Legal Actions and Arrest of the Accused

Following the incident, the Ghatkopar police acted swiftly to apprehend Jafar Shaikh. A case was registered based on Aarti’s complaint under Crime No. 1280/26. The charges against him include Sections 109(1), 351(3), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections pertain to attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace.

Authorities are currently in the process of gathering evidence to support the investigation. Eyewitness statements are being recorded, and CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the skywalk is being reviewed to establish a clear timeline of events leading up to the incident.

The police have emphasised the importance of collecting comprehensive evidence to ensure that justice is served. The case has garnered significant attention due to the horrific nature of the act and the young age of the victim.

Community Response and Ongoing Investigation

The incident has shocked the local community, raising concerns about domestic violence and its tragic consequences. Many residents have expressed their disbelief over the events that unfolded on the skywalk. Community leaders have called for increased awareness and resources to address domestic disputes before they escalate into violence.

As the investigation continues, police are also looking into any previous incidents involving the couple that may shed light on their relationship dynamics. The authorities are committed to ensuring that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined to prevent future tragedies.

In the wake of this incident, discussions surrounding mental health support and conflict resolution within families have gained prominence. Local organisations are reportedly planning to hold workshops aimed at educating families on managing disputes peacefully.
