Singer Swagatha S Krishnan Alleges Sexual Abuse by Tamil Music Director

The CSR Journal Magazine

Swagatha S Krishnan, a notable singer in the Tamil music industry, has disclosed her experiences of sexual abuse at the hands of a music director, whom she has dubbed the “Epstein of Madras.” Known for her popular tracks like “Yeno Pennae” from *Ispade Rajavum Irudhaya Raniyum* and “Kadhal Kanmani” from *Bachelor*, Swagatha shared her harrowing story during an interview with the YouTube channel Sivasankari Talks.

In the interview, she described her decision to relocate from Chennai to Rishikesh and her contemplation of leaving the Tamil music industry altogether. The singer attributed these drastic changes to her experiences of alleged sexual abuse, which she claimed unfolded in the music director’s studio—a place she previously deemed to be safe.

While Swagatha refrained from disclosing the identity of the accused, she expressed a strong intention to pursue legal action. She emphasised her desire to ensure that no other woman has to endure similar experiences in the future.

Details of the Allegations

Swagatha recounted that the alleged abuse occurred within a soundproof studio room, locked and equipped with CCTV cameras, including hidden ones. According to her, the circumstances allowed for the incident to be recorded, with the footage subsequently used as a means of intimidation against her. She stated, “It was a soundproof room; even if I screamed, no one could hear me.”

The singer compared the situation to infamous cases involving sexual exploitation, asserting that the accused had established himself as a figure of authority and trust before engaging in misconduct. She illustrated how he took advantage of vulnerable independent women, fostering emotional dependence and manipulating financial situations to exert control.

In her revelations, Swagatha noted that after the alleged abuse, she began receiving communications from other women who had faced similar challenges. She claimed that the practice of surreptitiously recording women and even minors visiting the studio had become a troubling trend.

Emotional and Psychological Impact

Swagatha detailed the profound emotional ramifications of the alleged abuse, describing feelings of isolation and shame. She mentioned being wrongfully accused of theft and subjected to negative commentary within the industry, including involvement from the abuser’s family aimed at tarnishing her reputation.

She spoke candidly about the psychological toll, revealing that she isolated herself for extended periods. In dealing with the trauma, she sought skin treatment due to the distressing memories associated with the assault, relying on her sister and therapy for support.

Expressing her turmoil, she stated, “I felt like the parts of my body he touched shouldn’t exist.” Swagatha also conveyed that despite initially consulting lawyers and prominent officials, she refrained from filing a formal complaint due to fear and perceived lack of support.

Determined to take action, Swagatha reiterated that her intention is not to seek revenge but to protect others from experiencing similar predicaments. She remains committed to pursuing legal options in hopes of fostering a safer environment for women within the industry and beyond.
