Samsung Confirms July 22 Galaxy Unpacked Event, Z Fold 8 Ultra Could Take Centre Stage

The CSR Journal Magazine

Samsung is set to unveil its latest foldable devices at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 22 in London. The company has formally announced the event through a teaser shared on social media platform X. This event will highlight Samsung’s advancements in foldable technology, continuing the trend observed in previous summer Unpacked events.

The teaser released by Samsung featured a rectangular ticket that hints at the new design of their foldable devices. Notably, it included the phrase “A new shape unfolds,” suggesting an innovative approach to their next foldable, reportedly named the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which may introduce a wider screen format.

To accommodate global viewers, the event will be livestreamed at 6:30 PM IST (1 PM BST) on Samsung’s YouTube channel and official website. Prior to the launch, the company is also offering a $30 (approximately Rs 2,850) pre-order credit for customers residing in the United States.

Anticipated Product Line-Up

While Samsung has not disclosed the specifics regarding the devices to be showcased at the event, industry speculation suggests a focus on several new foldable phones, including updates to the Galaxy Watch series and potentially the introduction of smart glasses. Historical trends indicate that the summer Unpacked event is typically when Samsung refreshes its Z Fold and Z Flip line-up.

Reports indicate that this year, Samsung may unveil three distinct foldable models. The flagship models expected are the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8, with additional attention on the newly rumoured Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which could introduce significant enhancements over its predecessors.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is anticipated to feature a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, enhancing the viewing experience for videos by reducing black bars compared to previous models. The exterior display may be a 5.5-inch cover screen, both of which are thought to incorporate high-refresh-rate AMOLED technology.

Updates on Smartwatches and Smart Glasses

In addition to smartphones, Samsung is expected to reveal two new smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, at the event. The Ultra 2 variant is reported to feature an upgraded battery capacity of up to 800mAh, alongside aesthetic refinements such as a thinner bezel and improved buttons.

The Galaxy Watch 9 is also likely to come with a new processor, enhanced battery life, and advanced health-tracking features. Unlike previous years, there is an expectation that the Galaxy Watch Classic may not be launched this time around.

Further developments include the anticipated launch of Samsung’s smart glasses, which were previewed at an earlier event by Google. These smart glasses, developed in partnership with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, are expected to operate similarly to other smart eyewear on the market, but precise details regarding functionality and pricing remain unconfirmed.

Lastly, discussions around the Galaxy Ring 2 may arise, although its release could be postponed until next year. As Samsung positions itself in the wearables market, the upcoming Unpacked event is set to draw significant attention from tech enthusiasts and consumers alike.
