The recent visit of a Samajwadi Party delegation to Jauhar University has sparked allegations of malice against the Uttar Pradesh government. Mata Prasad Pandey, the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, expressed strong criticisms of the administration’s motives while addressing reporters. He contended that the government is operating with evident political malice surrounding the proposed demolition of university structures.

Pandey articulated that the entire matter relates to safeguarding the future of a significant number of underprivileged students, including those from poor, backward, Dalit, and minority communities. The delegation indicated that this issue is pivotal to education and articulated a commitment to championing educational rights and the Constitution.

Demolition Notices and Legal Actions

The Rampur Development Authority (RDA) has initiated a proposed demolition of 38 buildings at Mohammad Ali Jauhar University on allegations of illegal construction. On June 28, the RDA issued a notice claiming that 82,309.80 square metres of the university’s construction lacked proper authorisation. According to the RDA, only two out of the numerous buildings had prior approval from the District Panchayat, which raises questions about regulatory compliance.

The trust operating the university, the Jauhar Trust, has been asked to submit approval documents regarding the constructions; however, they reportedly failed to meet the stipulated deadline. Following this, the trust has been granted an extension of 15 days to dismantle the identified structures. The RDA has warned that it will initiate demolition proceedings if the compliance is not achieved within the new timeframe, putting the future of the university in jeopardy.

This directive has been issued under the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. The Vice-Chairman of the RDA, who concurrently serves as the District Magistrate of Rampur, signed the demolition order, indicating the seriousness of the administrative actions taken against the university.

Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, also known as Jauhar University, is a private higher education institution located in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.
