Rohit Shetty House Firing: Main Suspect Captured in Haryana, Total Arrests Reach Eleven

The CSR Journal Magazine

The investigation into the shooting incident that occurred outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence has resulted in a total of eleven arrests. Authorities made four additional arrests across various states, broadening the scope of the inquiry. Among those captured was the primary shooter, Deepak Sharma, who was apprehended in Bahadurgarh by the Haryana Special Task Force and the Mumbai Crime Branch. Reports indicate he received an initial payment of fifty thousand rupees for the shooting, with promises of further compensation to follow.

Details of the Shooting Incident

Earlier, seven other suspects had been arrested from locations in Pune and Uttar Pradesh. A coordinated operation near the Haryana-Rajasthan border led to the recent arrests. Among those taken into custody was Praveen Lonkar, who had been in judicial custody related to the murder of Baba Siddique. Police officials revealed that Deepak Sharma, originally from Noida, had sought refuge in Bahadurgarh and maintained contact with gang affiliates linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi network. Officers allege he was directed by accomplices named Hari Boxer and Arju Bishnoi to execute the shooting at Shetty’s home as part of an extortion plan.

Roles of Additional Suspects

Further investigations disclose that during the incident, Deepak fired shots while his co-conspirators, Sunny and Sonu, conducted a reconnaissance of the target beforehand. Another suspect, Ritik Yadav, allegedly assisted Deepak in evading capture post-incident. The four suspects arrested in connection with the shooting have since been transferred to Mumbai Police for further interrogation and eventual custody in Mumbai.

Operation Coordination and Evidence Recovery

The joint operation, executed by the Haryana STF in collaboration with the Mumbai Crime Branch, has resulted in crucial evidence collection, including a mobile phone and a motorcycle belonging to the suspects. Authorities highlighted that the incident’s operational methods suggested a planned attempt to intimidate and extort the filmmaker.

Terror Incident Timing and Impact on Film Industry

The shooting incident transpired around 12:43 AM between January 31 and February 1, marking a significant cause for alarm in the film fraternity as unidentified individuals fired four shots outside Shetty’s residence. The swift arrests underscore the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to address the growing concerns regarding safety in the entertainment sector.

Legal Implications and Ongoing Investigations

In a proactive legal measure, the Mumbai Police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the apprehended suspects. This action reflects an understanding that the incident is not an isolated act of intimidation but part of a more extensive organized crime framework potentially associated with notorious gangs. The investigation continues as authorities seek to uncover additional connections and financial networks related to the criminal activities.
