Indian Army on High Alert Along the Line of Control

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian Army has heightened its alert status along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. This decision follows intelligence reports indicating that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Pakistan Army have activated six to seven launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These launch pads are reportedly being used to facilitate the infiltration of terrorists into Indian territory.

Intelligence sources suggest that over 100 terrorists have been relocated to forward camps in preparation for infiltration attempts. Such attempts are anticipated before the onset of winter snowfall, which typically complicates movement across the mountainous border. The heightened alert specifically covers the Rajouri-Poonch belt and the Kashmir Valley.

Security agencies are actively monitoring movement along the LoC, which serves as the de facto military boundary separating Indian- and Pakistani-controlled regions of Kashmir. This alert follows a recent infiltration attempt in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district, where four Pakistani terrorists were killed in a landmine explosion.

Details of the Landmine Explosion Incident

The four terrorists were reportedly attempting to cross the LoC near Nangi Tekri in the Krishna Ghati sector when they encountered an old landmine field. According to security sources, the explosion resulted in the immediate death of all four individuals. The group was detected by surveillance systems while attempting to cross the border on the night of the incident.

One of the deceased has been identified as Mohammad Faizan, a senior commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who was allegedly responsible for coordinating the launch of infiltrators from camps located in Nikial and Kotli in PoK. The other three individuals were identified as Wakas, Ishtiaq, and Asim. Security forces recovered their bodies, along with arms and ammunition, from the area.

A search operation has been initiated to ascertain whether additional members of the group were involved in the infiltration attempt. Intelligence inputs indicate that terrorist organisations operating from PoK are making efforts to infiltrate into Kashmir before winter conditions set in, as heavy snowfall can hinder movement across the rugged terrain.

Recent Explosive Incidents Heighten Security Concerns

The recent landmine explosion is not an isolated incident. On Monday, another blast was reported in the Satwal-Naki area near the zero line in the Krishna Ghati sector. Officials indicated that a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) detonated while a group was moving along the Pakistan side of the LoC. It remains unclear whether the group consisted of terrorists attempting to cross the border or Pakistani security personnel on patrol.

Following the blast, security forces increased their alert status and intensified surveillance in the sector. In a separate occurrence, Army personnel discovered two rusted landmines near the border fence in the Basoni area of Mendhar sector on the same day. These explosives were found during track construction and were subsequently destroyed by Army experts in controlled explosions.

Over the past week, approximately a dozen landmines have been detected and defused in the area. These landmines are part of the anti-infiltration grid along the LoC. Heavy rainfall can sometimes displace or expose older explosives, creating additional risks in areas where they may not be anticipated.
