Blue Drum Murder Case Highlights Young IPS Officers’ Investigation

The CSR Journal Magazine

The investigation into the murder of Saurabh Rajput in Meerut has brought two young IPS officers, Ayush Vikram Singh and Antariksh Jain, into the public eye for their significant contributions. Their efforts in piecing together the evidence and communicating crucial details have been pivotal in advancing the case, which involved the dismemberment of the victim’s body and its concealment in a blue drum filled with cement.

Singh, who was the Superintendent of Police (City) at the time, and Jain, serving as the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), both played critical roles in the investigation that ultimately led to the conviction of Rajput’s wife, Muskan Rastogi, and her alleged accomplice, Sahil Shukla. Their work has been instrumental in clarifying the events surrounding the murder, which first emerged in March 2025.

Profiles of Ayush Vikram Singh and Antariksh Jain

Ayush Vikram Singh, born on October 29, 1992, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is a 2020-batch IPS officer. He holds degrees in chemical engineering and law, having successfully passed the civil services examination to join the Indian Police Service. Singh assumed the role of Meerut’s SP City in December 2023, just months before the murder case surfaced.

During the investigation, Singh was proactive in sharing vital information with the media, particularly details that emerged during the interrogation of the suspects. His communication efforts were crucial in keeping the public informed as the investigation unfolded. In April 2026, Singh was transferred to Bahraich as Additional Superintendent of Police (City), where he is currently stationed.

Antariksh Jain, born on September 3, 1998, in SAS Nagar, Punjab, is a 2022-batch IPS officer with a background in mechanical engineering. He achieved All India Rank 130 in his first attempt at the civil services examination. While serving as ASP in Meerut, Jain was responsible for police operations in the Kotwali area and played a key role in disseminating forensic findings related to the case.

Details of the Blue Drum Murder Case

Saurabh Rajput, a resident of Meerut’s Brahmpuri area, was reported murdered in March 2025. The police investigation implicated his wife, Muskan Rastogi, and her alleged lover, Sahil Shukla, in the crime. The authorities alleged that they killed Rajput, dismembered his body, and concealed the remains in a blue drum filled with cement. Rajput had returned from abroad on February 24, 2025, and was reportedly murdered on March 3.

Following the murder, Muskan and Sahil allegedly travelled to Himachal Pradesh, prompting investigators to track their movements. The case gained public attention on March 18, 2025, leading to an intensified police investigation. Evidence collected from the crime scene included the suspected murder weapon and other materials, which were crucial in establishing the timeline of events.

The police identified the relationship between Muskan and Sahil as a potential motive for the crime. Investigators indicated that the murder appeared to be premeditated rather than spontaneous. They examined various pieces of evidence, including the purchase of a knife and the blue drum, to reconstruct the events leading to the murder. Speculation regarding occult practices emerged, but the police confirmed that their inquiries did not yield any substantial evidence linking the crime to such rituals.
