The CSR Journal Magazine

Mumbai batter Rohit Sharma has commenced preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The seasoned player has officially joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad and has started training. In a recently shared video on Instagram, the 38-year-old showcased his signature batting style while dressed in the Mumbai Indians’ training jersey. With an impressive six IPL titles to his name—one with Deccan Chargers and five as captain of MI—Sharma stands as one of the most successful captains in IPL history.

Sharma’s Journey with Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma joined the Mumbai franchise in 2011 and took on the captaincy in 2013. He led MI to its first IPL title in his debut season as captain and has since helmed the team for 11 years. Despite stepping down as captain ahead of the 2024 season, when Hardik Pandya took over, Sharma remains a pivotal player for the team and holds the record as MI’s leading run-scorer. He is also among the select group of players to have surpassed 6000 runs in IPL history. His most prolific season occurred in 2013 when he amassed 538 runs during MI’s championship-winning run. In 2015, Sharma earned the title of Player of the Final as MI triumphed over Chennai Super Kings for their second IPL title. Under his leadership, MI claimed additional championships in 2017, 2019, and 2020.
