Red Fort Blast Case: NIA Court Extends Custody of Zamir and Tufail

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court in New Delhi has granted a five-day extension of custody for Zamir Ahmed Ahangar and Tufail Ahmad Shah, who are facing charges related to the Red Fort blast that occurred in November 2025. Their appearance in court comes after a ten-day remand concluded. The extension was issued by Special NIA Judge Pitambar Dutt following a closed courtroom hearing. The NIA had initially requested a longer custody period of fifteen days to continue its investigation into the case.

Investigation Timeline and Other Accused

In addition to Zamir and Tufail, the court has also extended the investigation period concerning Bilal Nasir Malla and Yasir Ahmad Dar for an additional 45 days. This follows a previous remand that took place on February 25, which assigned Tufail and Zamir to 10 days of NIA custody. They were escorted to Delhi by Jammu and Kashmir police under a production warrant, after which custody was transferred to the NIA. Legal representation for the accused was provided by lawyer Piyush Sachdeva.

Allegations Against the Accused

Both Zamir and Tufail are under scrutiny for allegedly gathering arms and ammunition for nefarious activities. Reports claim that Zamir received a rifle, a pistol, and live ammunition from individuals named Umar, Irfan, and Adil. The duo is suspected of having links with the militant organization Ansar Ghazawat Ul Hind, further complicating the case against them.

Context of the Red Fort Blast

The NIA has previously detained multiple individuals in connection with this incident, which includes Dr Shaheen Saeed, Dr Muzammil Shakeel, Adeel Ahmed, Jasir Bilal Wani, Nasir Bilal Malla, Yasir Ahmad Dar, Mufti Irfan Ahmed, and Amir Rashid. These individuals remain in judicial custody as the investigation continues. The ongoing inquiry relates to a deadly blast that took place near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025. Notably, the accused Umar Un Nabi passed away during this incident; he was allegedly driving the vehicle that was involved in the explosion.
