Ranveer Singh’s Exit from Don 3 Sparks Rs 40 Crore Clash With Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment

The CSR Journal Magazine

A financial dispute has erupted between Bollywood star Ranveer Singh and production house Excel Entertainment after the actor’s departure from the highly anticipated action film Don 3. Sources close to the matter say Excel is seeking compensation of around Rs 40 crore for losses allegedly incurred following Singh’s exit from the project.

Exit and Alleged Financial Losses

Don 3, part of the celebrated Don franchise and once set to star Ranveer in the titular role, has faced repeated delays since its announcement in 2023. After entering advanced pre‑production late last year, the project reportedly encountered creative disagreements between Singh and the filmmakers. Following his exit, Excel Entertainment is said to have claimed substantial financial damages,  including expenses for script development, scheduling, planning and other preparatory work,  linking them to Singh’s withdrawal.

According to entertainment reports, Excel believes these sunk costs and disruptions caused a significant setback to the film’s timeline and finances, prompting demands that the star compensate the production house to the tune of Rs 40 crore.

Conflicting Perspectives and Talks

Industry insiders tell Variety India that Ranveer’s camp has strongly rejected the compensation demand, arguing that the actor is not liable for the claimed losses. They maintain that creative differences over the script, rather than any contractual breach, were the primary reason for his decision to step away from Don 3. Reports suggest that Singh repeatedly requested changes to the screenplay and was unhappy with the material, while Excel contends that pre‑production progressed only after initial approval from the actor.

A two‑hour meeting between representatives of Ranveer and Excel was reportedly held in an effort to find common ground, but no resolution was reached. With both sides standing firm on their positions, the dispute remains unresolved.

Producers Guild Mediation and Industry Impact

As tensions have risen, the Producers Guild of India (PGI) has stepped in to mediate between the two parties and prevent the conflict from escalating further. Mediation efforts aim to facilitate dialogue and explore possible solutions that can protect the interests of both the actor and the production house.

The situation has sparked widespread discussion within the industry, highlighting the growing complexities of large‑budget film productions where creative differences and financial stakes often collide. Analysts note that Don 3 remains an important franchise for Bollywood, and how the dispute is resolved could set precedents for future filmmaking contracts and accountability in pre‑production commitments.

Future of Don 3 and Ranveer’s Projects

At this stage, Don 3 does not have a confirmed shooting schedule or cast lineup. Sources say that Excel continues to explore options to move the project forward, though no official statements have been made regarding a replacement lead or revised timelines. Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh is focussing on other upcoming films, including his next release Dhurandhar 2, set for a March 2026 theatrical premiere.

No official comment has been issued yet by either Ranveer Singh or Excel Entertainment on the reported compensation dispute. Industry watchers are closely monitoring developments as talks continue.
