Indian Railways Launches Tiger Safari Packages to Tadoba and Pench

The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian Railways has officially announced the introduction of tiger safari packages in Maharashtra, marking its entry into the wildlife tourism sector. The Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has partnered with the Maharashtra Forest Department to provide comprehensive wildlife tour packages at the renowned Tadoba and Pench tiger reserves. This initiative aims to promote eco-tourism while offering a unique experience for wildlife enthusiasts.

The newly launched tour package, named Vandarshan, is set to commence on November 19. An official from IRCTC stated that this will be the first initiative of its kind, integrating rail travel, accommodation, local transport, and wildlife safari into a single offering. The package is designed to cater to the growing interest in wildlife tourism and aims to provide a seamless travel experience for participants.

The collaboration seeks to enhance the accessibility of these tiger reserves, which are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. By combining various elements of travel, the initiative aims to attract both domestic and international tourists to experience the rich biodiversity of Maharashtra.

Itineraries and Travel Details

IRCTC has developed five distinct itineraries primarily focusing on the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and Pench Tiger Reserve. Additionally, the tours will include visits to other notable wildlife areas, such as Bor Tiger Reserve, Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve, Umred-Paoni-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, and Tipeshwar Wildlife Sanctuary. Each itinerary is structured as a 4-night, 5-day tour, providing ample time for exploration and wildlife observation.

Participants will embark on their journey from Mumbai on the Vidarbha Express (12105), which departs every Thursday. The return journey will be on train 12106 from Gondia every Sunday. Depending on the chosen package, boarding and return stations may vary, allowing flexibility for travellers. This arrangement is designed to facilitate an enjoyable and hassle-free travel experience.

However, it is important to note that the packages have limited availability. IRCTC has allocated six berths in 3AC and six in 2AC for each departure, making early booking essential for those interested in participating. The official emphasised that wildlife safaris are subject to regulations set by the forest department, highlighting the importance of advance confirmation, especially during peak holiday seasons.

Booking and Availability

Those interested in the tiger safari packages can book their tours through the IRCTC website or authorised agents. The packages are expected to attract a significant number of wildlife enthusiasts, given the popularity of tiger safaris in India. The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable tourism while ensuring the conservation of wildlife habitats.

As the launch date approaches, IRCTC is likely to provide additional details regarding pricing and specific itinerary features. The tour packages are designed to offer an immersive experience, allowing participants to witness the majestic tigers in their natural habitat while also enjoying the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscapes.

In conclusion, the introduction of these tiger safari packages by Indian Railways represents a significant step towards enhancing wildlife tourism in Maharashtra. With the collaboration of the Maharashtra Forest Department, the initiative aims to provide an enriching experience for nature lovers while promoting conservation efforts in the region.
