Ranbir Kapoor Opens Up on Playing Lord Rama and Parashurama in Ramayana

The CSR Journal Magazine

Ranbir Kapoor recently shared his thoughts on his portrayal of both Lord Rama and Lord Parashurama in the upcoming film Ramayana, following the release of the teaser in the United States. The actor expressed his enthusiasm about taking on such significant dual roles within this major adaptation directed by Nitesh Tiwari. His comments are part of the growing anticipation surrounding the film, as it aims to bring a traditional epic to contemporary audiences.

While Kapoor’s primary role in the film is that of Lord Rama, reports indicate that his appearance as Lord Parashurama, another incarnation of Lord Vishnu, will also play a crucial part in the narrative. Kapoor explained the mythological relationship between the two characters, underscoring their connection as avatars of the same deity.

“Lord Vishnu had different avatars. Lord Rama was an avatar, and Lord Parshurama was an avatar before Lord Rama,” he stated. This reflection draws attention to the broader mythological context within which these characters exist, further enriching the story’s depth.

Exploration of Character Depth

Ranbir Kapoor highlighted the rarity and artistic value of being able to embody both characters in one film. He described the process as “fantastic,” noting that understanding the emotional and spiritual aspects of his roles was essential preparation for the project. He spent considerable time delving into the backstories and motivations of Lord Rama and Lord Parashurama in the lead-up to filming.

“As an actor, apart from body language, if you deeply engage with the spirituality and emotionality of the characters, that understanding forms the foundation of the performance,” he remarked. This approach indicates Kapoor’s commitment to authentically representing these revered figures from Indian mythology.

Reports suggest that his preparation involved both physical training and extensive study of the philosophical themes associated with these characters. This dedication points to a larger aim within Ramayana, which seeks to present a nuanced view rather than merely relying on visual spectacle.

Ambitious Adaptation and Expectations

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being developed as a grand cinematic project, aiming to adapt the ancient Indian epic for a modern audience. Envisioned as a visual spectacle, the film strives to portray the epic journey of Lord Rama, encompassing key themes such as virtue, duty, and the battle against malevolence.

The inclusion of Lord Parashurama is noteworthy, despite being a more minor appearance. Known for his fierce spirit and warrior-like qualities, Parashurama adds a mythological depth that complements the film’s overarching narrative. The presence of such characters lends additional significance to the storyline and enriches the mythological layers within the adaptation.

As excitement continues to build around the film’s release, Ramayana remains one of the most anticipated projects within Indian cinema. Various stakeholders, including producers and cast members, are closely monitoring audience reactions, eager to witness how this iconic tale will be reinterpreted for the silver screen.
