Ramadan 2026: Registration Now Open for I’tikaf at Makkah and Madinah Mosques

The CSR Journal Magazine

Worshippers intending to participate in i’tikaf during the final days of Ramadan can now register, following the opening of registrations for the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque announced that the registration commenced on Friday, 3 Ramadan 1447H, at 11 a.m. I’tikaf is set to begin on 20 Ramadan and will continue until the conclusion of Ramadan on 30 Ramadan, in accordance with the established organizational plan for the holy month.

Procedure for Application

Applications must be submitted electronically via the official portal. Interested individuals can visit: https://eservices.alharamain.gov.sa/login. To apply, users need to log in or create a new account on the portal. Citizens and residents may also access the system through the Nafath platform. Applicants must select either the Grand Mosque in Makkah or the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah as their preferred i’tikaf location. It is essential to agree to the terms and conditions before completing the required details and submitting the application. Those who are successful in their applications will receive a text message confirming their acceptance along with specific nomination details.

Ensured Safe Environment for Worshippers

The authorities have assured that the arrangements in place are designed to promote a safe, organized, and spiritually conducive environment for worshippers throughout Ramadan. These efforts are part of ensuring that individuals can engage fully in their spiritual practices without any distractions.

Understanding I’tikaf

I’tikaf is a practice where many Muslims choose to devote the last ten days of Ramadan to worship, distancing themselves from everyday concerns. This tradition follows the example set by the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. While the Sunnah encourages engaging in i’tikaf for a duration of ten days, it is also permissible to observe it for a minimum of one day and one night. As the final ten nights of Ramadan approach, the opportunity for registration enables worshippers to prepare for this significant period of introspection at the two holiest sites in Islam.
