Rahul Gandhi Urges Narendra Modi to Clarify India’s Moral Stance Amid US-Israel-Iran Tensions

The CSR Journal Magazine

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to adopt a definitive moral stance in light of intensifying tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. In a post shared on the platform X, Gandhi expressed concern that escalating hostilities were steering a fragile region toward a broader conflict. He highlighted the potential impact on millions of individuals, including nearly ten million Indians, who are at risk due to the worsening security conditions.

Gandhi emphasized that while security concerns are significant, actions that infringe on national sovereignty would only exacerbate the crisis at hand. The tensions underscore an urgent need to prioritize dialogue and restraint over violence, he asserted, emphasizing that such an approach remains the only viable path toward peace.

India’s Foreign Policy Needs Clarity

He further stated that India’s historical foreign policy principles require clarity in times of global instability. “India must be morally clear. We should have the courage to speak plainly in defense of international law and human lives. Our foreign policy is rooted in sovereignty and the peaceful resolution of disputes—and it must remain consistent,” he said. These assertions highlight the need for India to maintain its established principles even amidst global turmoil.

Gandhi directed pointed remarks toward Prime Minister Modi, questioning the government’s stance on recent global events. He called for Modi to articulate his position clearly regarding the implications of aggressive maneuvers such as the assassination of a head of state, which Gandhi views as detrimental to India’s international reputation and standing.

Ongoing Military Operations in the Region

Simultaneously, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday that limited flight operations from Dubai have resumed, although regional airspace disruptions continue to pose challenges. This announcement comes in the wake of military actions taken on February 28, when the US and Israel conducted airstrikes across various Iranian cities, targeting military command centers, air defense systems, missile installations, and critical regime infrastructure.

The airstrikes have reportedly resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei along with four senior military and security officials, leading to significant explosions in Tehran and other key cities. The unfolding situation poses an immediate challenge not just to Iran but to neighboring countries in the region, including India, which is watching the developments closely.
