Rahul Gandhi Unveils Five Welfare Initiatives for Kerala

The CSR Journal Magazine

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced five significant welfare initiatives to enhance social security and uplift women and youth in Kerala as the state prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking at the conclusion of the Puthuyuga Yatra, Gandhi outlined plans aimed at improving healthcare access, ensuring financial stability for families, and encouraging entrepreneurship.

Details of Welfare Guarantees

The proposed initiatives include a comprehensive ‘women’s empowerment package’ that will allow women free travel on buses operated by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation. Furthermore, to alleviate financial pressures on families, female college students will be eligible for a monthly stipend of ₹1,000 to support their higher education. In a bid to enhance financial security for vulnerable groups, social welfare pensions will be increased to ₹3,000.

Health Insurance and Youth Support Programs

Additionally, Gandhi introduced the Oommen Chandy Health Insurance Scheme, which aims to provide families with free medical coverage of up to ₹25 lakh. This initiative is designed to make healthcare more accessible and financially manageable for residents. To further support the youth, the Congress leader announced an offer of interest-free loans up to ₹5 lakh for young entrepreneurs to launch businesses and create employment opportunities.

Focus on Elderly Welfare

A new department dedicated to the welfare, dignity, and protection of elderly citizens will be established as part of these initiatives. The Congress party leadership emphasized that these guarantees are intended to deliver financial relief to families while promoting empowerment for women and youth, ensuring a comprehensive social security net for all residents of Kerala.

BJP Responds with Election Strategy

In a parallel political development, BJP National President Nitin Nabin led the official launch of the party’s electoral campaign in Kerala last month. Addressing a large gathering of supporters, he stressed the commitment of BJP cadres to strengthen the party’s influence at all levels, from Panchayat to Parliament. Nabin highlighted the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring its focus on progress, integrity, and national pride, which he believes should reach every area and household in the state.

Upcoming Elections in Kerala

The Legislative Assembly elections in Kerala are anticipated to take place in April 2026, with 140 members of the Kerala Legislative Assembly to be elected. In his address, Nabin also paid tribute to BJP workers in Kerala, acknowledging their sacrifices and determination amid challenges. He expressed confidence that their commitment would lead to a successful outcome, asserting that “the Lotus will surely bloom in Kerala.”
