The CSR Journal Magazine

A disturbing case of alleged quadruple murder has emerged from Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, where a man is accused of taking the lives of four family members amid a property dispute. The incident reportedly occurred in the village of Basantpur Udal, falling under the jurisdiction of the Rupaidiha police station, around midnight on March 1. Local authorities were alerted following a complaint lodged by Gurudev, the elder brother of the accused, Nirankar.

Accusations Against Nirankar

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari, Gurudev stated that during a heated argument over the sale of land and jewelry, Nirankar attacked their parents, grandmother, and sister with an axe. Gurudev described that on that fateful night, he heard disturbing noises and upon investigation, he discovered Nirankar violently assaulting their family members. The mother, father, grandmother, and sister suffered fatal injuries as a result of the axe attacks.

Attempt on Gurudev

In addition to the tragic killings, Nirankar also allegedly turned his aggression towards Gurudev, attacking him with the same weapon. At the time, Gurudev’s son, Azad, was present and witnessed the horrifying events. Villagers intervened during the ordeal, aiding Gurudev. Authorities reported that Nirankar later escalated the situation by injuring himself, reportedly hitting his head repeatedly with a brick.

Medical Response and Arrest

Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene, and Nirankar was taken into custody. He was initially treated at the District Hospital in Bahraich before being referred to Lucknow for specialized medical care. Gurudev also received medical attention at the Primary Health Centre in Chhabra, Rupaidiha.

Identities of the Deceased

The victims have been identified as Badlu Ram, aged 60, Sanju Devi, approximately 56 years old, their daughter Parvati, around 42, and the grandmother, Sitala, estimated to be 80 years old. The deceased were taken to the District Hospital in Bahraich for post-mortem examinations to be conducted as part of the investigation.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

In light of the incident, authorities have registered a case under Crime No. 41/2026 at the Rupaidiha police station, citing Sections 103(1) and 109(1) of the BNS. Investigators are currently in the process of examining all aspects of the case, looking into the circumstances that precipitated this violent outburst within the family.

Statements from the Complainant

Gurudev has expressed his belief that the tragic events stemmed from long-standing family disputes over property matters. He indicated that there had been previous disagreements, suggesting that a similar quarrel had occurred about a month prior, with police advising his brother to resolve the matter amicably. Gurudev elaborated that their parents had refrained from selling off their land, which had been a source of conflict leading to this tragic outcome.
