PWD Plans to Install CCTV in Delhi’s Underpass to Check Waterlogging

The Public Works Department of Delhi is planning to install CCTV cameras at South Delhi’s Moolchand and Prahladpur underpasses for increased monitoring of waterlogging hotspots. Officials informed on Friday that CCTV installation will help monitor the real-time situation at the underpass, and can be operated from the PWD flood control room. Real-time monitoring will assist in taking action in these locations during the monsoon, where waterlogging has been a problem for many years now.

As per the existing standard operating procedure sent by the PWD, if the depth of the water accumulated inside the underpass is observed to be 6 to 8 inches, the control room is supposed to inform the field unit and check with the pump operators. A pump is then used to pull water out of the underpass. But if the water level fails to decline, the department alerts the traffic police to restrict traffic movement in the area.

Month-Long Installation

However, the new plan is to install eight bullet cameras and three dome cameras from the two underpasses, along with other recruitments to support life through the online cloud data system developed for monitoring and alert.

This system will undergo a month-long process of installation, according to the official.
