Two decades back when social media and viral sensations hardly existed, even then pictures of a woman went far beyond the desert town Pushkar, through postcards, souvenirs and today the same woman has once again become an internet sensation. A woman named Pappu Devi, a resident of Pushkar in Rajasthan has gone viral, her old picture has resurfaced on social platforms, leaving social media astonished with her striking features and resemblance with ‘tigress eyes’, piercing yellow-green eyes.
The viral picture has increased curiosity among people, but this time it is not only Devi, but her daughters as well, who have similar features. The old picture was taken two decades back during Pushkar fair.
Who is Pappu Devi?
Pappu Devi, a resident of Pushkar is in late 30s. For years she has been selling handmade bags and souvenirs roadside. In all the items she sells, there is this postcard on which her photograph is featured 20 years back. During that time Pappu Devi was a street vendor and a passerby captured her for her striking ‘tigress eyes’. While the picture was captured by a street photographer, later it turned into postcard stands across many cities.
Two decades later, Pappu Devi is married and has three beautiful daughters with similar features. Her husband works as a safari driver. Even today, when tourists visit Pushkar they come across Pappu Devi and her daughters on the roadside, selling handmade mirror-work bags. Many tourists after meeting Pappu Devi and her daughter become shocked and ask them if they were wearing lenses. Last year in an interview, Pappu Devi clarified that she wasn’t from the Banjara community, however, she dresses like them as the outfit matches with her eyes and makes her look prettier and attractive.
