A tragic incident occurred in Faridkot district, Punjab, where a 19-year-old student was fatally injured after being hit by a speeding vehicle. The victim has been identified as Arshpreet Kaur, who was the daughter of Iqbal Singh and resided in Hardayal Nagar, Jaito. Arshpreet was enrolled in a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) programme at DAV College in Bathinda. She was reportedly walking towards the market near the railway station when the accident took place.

The collision occurred around 8 am when a car, approaching from the entrance of Bishnandi Road, struck her. Eyewitnesses described how Arshpreet was thrown into the air due to the impact and sustained critical injuries. Emergency services were immediately summoned, and she was taken to Jaito Civil Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Further Impact of the Accident

In addition to the tragic loss of Arshpreet, the speeding car went on to collide with a nearby tea stall, causing injuries to the stall owner and his brother. Both individuals were present at the stall during the incident and required medical attention, which they received at Jaito Civil Hospital. The authorities confirmed that they had been injured as a result of the crash.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the driver of the vehicle was operating the car at excessive speed. There were also claims suggesting that police personnel may have been pursuing the car in an unmarked vehicle at the time of the incident. However, police officials have yet to verify these allegations, which are currently under investigation.

In response to the incident, local police arrived promptly to secure the scene. The vehicle involved, a black Skoda, was impounded for examination. The driver, identified as Lakshman Bansal, was arrested and is under interrogation. Investigators are working to gather more evidence and witness statements regarding the events leading up to the fatal incident.

Police Investigation and Future Steps

Faridkot Superintendent of Police Jaspreet Singh provided statements regarding the ongoing investigation. He confirmed that they had received immediate reports about a girl being hit by a vehicle and dispatched the duty officer to the scene swiftly. Singh clarified that the situation seemed to resemble a hit-and-run, as the car failed to stop after the collision.

As part of their investigation, the police will closely scrutinise how fast the vehicle was travelling at the time of the accident. They will also gather and analyse statements from Arshpreet’s family and witnesses who suffered injuries in the crash. The police have stated that further legal action will depend on the findings from these statements and an overall review of the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Authorities are treating this incident with utmost seriousness, given its impact on the community and the loss of a young life. The investigation into the circumstances of Arshpreet’s death and the subsequent actions of the driver will continue to unfold as the police compile all necessary information.
