Punjab Govt. Launches New Property Registration System

On Monday (26 May 2025), Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, along with Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal, launched an easy registration system to facilitate hassle-free and transparent property registration within the state.

“This is a revolutionary step, as people will no longer have to run from office to office or deal with agents or middlemen. Everything—from start to finish—will be available on their phones, and the process will be faster, clearer, and more transparent,” said CM Mann.

Both leaders (Mann and Kejriwal) stated that citizens can now register properties at any Sub-Registrar Office (SRO) within the district, not just the one corresponding to the property’s location. Mann also noted that accountability of officers has been enforced, and a proper mechanism of checks and balances has been introduced. All of this has been done to prevent corruption and eliminate unfair delays in property registration. The CM added that the network of corruption in the Tehsils was deeply rooted and complex, and this move is a significant step toward dismantling it.

New System in place

The new registration system aims to make the process simple, fast, and transparent by using digital tools to minimize delays and check corruption in the Registrar Offices. It also seeks to prevent the harassment of citizens by government officials. Previously, citizens were compelled to register deeds only at the SRO responsible for the property’s location. Now, they can register at any SRO within the district.

Earlier, deed writers were hired to manually draft the sale deed, and payments were made via traditional banking methods. Now, property owners can prepare their deed online or pay an affordable fee of ₹500 through Seva Kendras, available at all SROs. Services can also be accessed by calling 1076 for home delivery.
