A coalition of job seekers, ASHA workers, and healthcare staff convened at the residence of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak in Lucknow on September 16 to voice their grievances. The assembly included candidates aspiring for ITI instructor positions, ASHA workers, and healthcare professionals who worked during the COVID-19 pandemic. They collectively urged the Deputy Chief Minister to address their pending demands.

The ITI instructor recruitment aspirants expressed frustration over the lack of progress since the initiation of the recruitment process was stalled in 2022. This has resulted in considerable difficulties for many aspiring candidates. They gathered in substantial numbers, insisting that the situation be rectified promptly.

Meanwhile, ASHA workers and ASHA Sanginis took the opportunity to articulate their long-standing demands, including an increase in their monthly honorarium. Meera Singh, the state president of ASHA Sanginis, elaborated on the challenges faced by the workers, highlighting the need for enhanced facilities. The workers requested a shift from basic 2G mobile phones to 5G devices and a more comprehensive data package to aid them in fulfilling their duties efficiently.

Healthcare Workers Seek Regularisation of Services

In a related demand, healthcare workers who rendered services during the COVID-19 crisis also joined the protests, pushing for their regularisation within government services. Amit Kumar from Barabanki shared that they sought to make their case directly to Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, emphasizing that their contributions during the pandemic should lead to concrete job security. They called for an urgent resolution of their issues.

Moreover, the assembled healthcare professionals, including lab technicians and nurses, claimed that despite earlier instructions from Deputy Chief Minister Pathak, district medical officers had failed to implement necessary actions. Activists such as Satendra Rai and Akanksha Trivedi stressed the necessity of addressing the needs of those who served on the frontline during the pandemic.

Adding to the concerns, Suryakant Chaturvedi, an ITI instructor aspirant from Ballia, reiterated the importance of commencing the recruitment process for ITI instructors to alleviate the plight of aspiring candidates who have been waiting for nearly a year and a half.

Deputy Chief Minister’s Response to Aspirants’ Concerns

On September 15, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak had previously assured job aspirants that the state government was committed to addressing their concerns. His remarks came after over 200 candidates gathered outside his residence, raising issues related to several ongoing recruitment processes, including the UPSSSC Forest Guard recruitment-2023.

Pathak acknowledged the various worries raised by candidates concerning age limits, the timeline for declaring results, and the status of appointment letters. He mentioned that discussions with senior officials from the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) were underway to expedite the finalisation of appointments.

Highlighting his commitment, Pathak stated, “These young people are like our own family, and our government stands firmly with the youth.” He instructed UPSSSC officials to ensure that aspirants’ grievances are promptly addressed, allowing them the opportunity to formally meet with officials to discuss their issues in more detail.
