Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates Tri-Services Meet at Vijay Durg, Kolkata

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the three-day Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at Vijay Durg, the headquarters of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in Kolkata. This significant event, a top-level forum for civil and military leaders, brings together key figures to deliberate on India’s strategic, institutional, and operational defense priorities. The conference is being held for the first time since the successful conclusion of ‘Operation Sindoor.’

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, were in attendance. The biennial conference serves as a crucial platform for a comprehensive review of the nation’s security posture and the direction of its armed forces.

Focus on Reforms and Modernization

This 16th edition of the CCC is themed “Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future,” underscoring a strong commitment to institutional changes, deeper integration among the three services, and technological modernization. According to a defense official, the conference agenda reflects the armed forces’ dedication to enhancing multi-domain operational readiness while driving crucial reforms. Interactive sessions involving officers of various ranks are a key feature, fostering a holistic discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing the military.

The Prime Minister arrived at Vijay Durg around 9:30 AM after an overnight stay at Raj Bhavan. His presence at the conference highlights the government’s close engagement with the defense establishment.

Operation Sindoor: A Precedent for Tri-Service Coordination

A major point of discussion at the conference is the recent ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a ‘targeted, punitive initiative to eliminate terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and within Pakistan.’ A defense official described the operation as a “coordinated tri-services action characterised by precision and professionalism,” demonstrating a new level of synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The conference provides a valuable opportunity to analyze the lessons learned from this operation and further refine joint military strategies.

The previous Combined Commanders’ Conference was held in Bhopal in 2023. This year’s event in Kolkata signals the importance of the Eastern Command and its strategic relevance in India’s defense architecture. The outcomes of the three-day conference are expected to shape the future direction of India’s armed forces, focusing on a more integrated, agile, and technologically advanced military capable of addressing emerging security challenges.
