Modi Praises Om Birla at Launch of Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota MP, Om Birla, for his steadfast contributions to regional development during the inauguration of the Kota-Bundi Greenfield Airport. This project, which is projected to cost Rs 1,507 crore, is anticipated to significantly enhance connectivity, promote tourism, and stimulate economic growth in the Hadoti region. PM Modi acknowledged Birla’s role in various developmental projects, including the airport, the establishment of a new IIIT campus, and road expansions, during the event held on Saturday.

Recognition for Leadership and Dedication

In a video address, Prime Minister Modi highlighted Birla’s enduring commitment to improving the lives of residents in Kota. He noted that Birla’s service-oriented approach is evident in multiple initiatives aimed at advancing the region. Modi stated, “It is due to his efforts that the development of Kota and the entire region is gaining new momentum.” Furthermore, the Prime Minister characterized Birla as an exceptional Speaker who respects the Constitution and the parliamentary system, emphasizing his skill in managing the House effectively across party lines.

Management Style and Respect for Parliamentarians

Modi elaborated on Birla’s leadership qualities, asserting that he maintains poise even in challenging situations. The Prime Minister remarked, “Om Birla is as outstanding a Speaker of the Lok Sabha as he is an MP. He is fully dedicated to the Constitution and holds deep respect for parliamentary systems.” He pointed out that Birla’s ability to lead is reflected in his treatment of all MPs, regardless of their party affiliations, and that he is respected for his management approach in the House. Modi recognized Birla’s capacity to mediate conflicts and maintain decorum, even when faced with disruptions.

No-Confidence Motion Against Om Birla

These commendations come in the wake of a No-Confidence Motion against Speaker Om Birla, signed by 118 MPs. The second phase of the parliamentary budget session is set to start on March 9, and three Congress MPs intend to present a resolution aiming to oust Birla. They allege that he has selectively silenced Opposition leaders, hindering fair debate in the House. The MPs, Mohammad Jawed, Kodikunnil Suresh, and Mallu Ravi, accused Birla of partisanship and of making inappropriate comments regarding women MPs.

Accusations of Partisanship

The Congress representatives further asserted that while they faced suspension for raising public issues, members of the ruling party were not reprimanded for making disparaging remarks about past Prime Ministers. They expressed concern that Birla’s perceived bias threatens the proper conduct of parliamentary proceedings. In light of the ongoing tensions, both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress have issued directives expecting their MPs to be present in the House from March 9 to 11.
