“PM Modi Busy with Election Rallies, Instead of Discussing LPG Shortage”: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a press conference in New Delhi, Sanjay Raut, a Member of Parliament from the Shiv Sena (UBT), expressed his discontent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on election rallies in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Raut accused the Prime Minister of neglecting critical issues, particularly the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders amidst the ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. He emphasized the need for discussions on how these international conflicts are affecting India’s energy security.

Concerns Over the Impact of International Conflicts

Raut pointed out that the Prime Minister’s engagements do not align with the pressing concerns of the Indian populace. He stated, “Where is our Prime Minister? He is carrying out election campaigns in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. And the words he is using against his opponents do not suit the stature of the Prime Ministerial position.” He highlighted that the failure to address issues such as the impact of the Iran-Israel conflict and the resultant shortage of LPG, petrol, and diesel is inducing fear among citizens, with businesses like hotels and restaurants reportedly closing down.

Context of PM Modi’s Election Rallies

This criticism followed Prime Minister Modi’s public meetings in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, conducted as part of the campaign leading up to the Assembly elections in both states. During these rallies, Modi directed sharp remarks toward opposition parties, such as the DMK, Congress, and the Left alliance. He also touched on the West Asia situation, acknowledging its influence on global energy supply chains. Modi reiterated his government’s commitment to placing India’s interests above all else and urged the public not to panic or heed rumors about the energy crisis.

Government Response to LPG Shortage

Reports indicate a significant shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has emerged due to the ongoing conflicts in West Asia. In response, the government invoked the Essential Commodities Act and prioritized the distribution for domestic use. According to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, domestic LPG production has been boosted by approximately 25 percent, focusing solely on household consumers. The Home Affairs Ministry has established a control room that is now functioning around the clock to manage this situation effectively.
