A Parliamentary Standing Committee, led by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, has raised serious concerns regarding ongoing irregularities in the examinations administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This issue persists despite a series of reforms implemented after the controversy surrounding the 2024 examinations. According to the committee’s latest report, there are continuing disruptions, cancellations, and allegations of wrongdoing in national-level competitive examinations, which have led to widespread anxiety for lakhs of students and their families.

The committee highlighted that while the government has initiated corrective measures and has acknowledged several recommendations from a high-level committee headed by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan, the implementation of these measures has been alarmingly slow. This ongoing situation raises questions about the effectiveness of the reforms intended to address these persistent issues.

Need for Timely Implementation of Recommendations

The panel has urged the Ministry of Education to publicly announce a clear and time-bound plan for the implementation of the recommendations made by the Radhakrishnan Committee. The committee believes that providing transparent timelines and regular public updates could foster confidence among students and other stakeholders in the reform process. This clarity is expected to help build trust in the system as it tackles the irregularities that have marred past examinations.

Furthermore, the committee stressed the importance of expediting the overhaul of the NTA and establishing measurable milestones. Echoing the earlier sentiments of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the panel acknowledged that significant improvements are still required within the NTA.
