Pakistan Launches Airstrikes in Afghanistan’s Paktika and Nangarhar, Targets Alleged Terror Camps

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Pakistani Air Force has executed an airstrike targeting a religious seminary in the Bermal district of Afghanistan’s Paktika province, according to reports. Additional strikes were conducted in the Khogyani district of Nangarhar province. These operations are part of a series of strikes initiated since Saturday, affecting multiple regions including Bermal and Argun in Paktika, and Khogyani, Bahsod, and Ghani Khel districts in Nangarhar. Pakistani sources also corroborated the attacks, suggesting that they were aimed at alleged terrorist camps situated along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Focus on Alleged Terrorist Camps

Pakistani media reports indicate that the targeted areas included seven camps associated with the Fitna al Khwarij (FAK) and the Daesh Khorasan Province (DKP). These strikes were described as being executed “with precision and accuracy” in response to a series of recent suicide attacks that occurred in Islamabad, Bajaur, and Bannu during the month of Ramadan. Pakistani officials have linked these attacks to insurgents operating under the guidance of leadership based in Afghanistan, specifically attributing responsibility to groups connected to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Daesh.

Pakistan’s Stance on Afghan Territory

The Pakistani government has reiterated its position that it has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban to take measures to prevent the use of Afghan territory by terrorist organizations. Despite these assertions, Pakistan has been subject to international scrutiny for allegedly providing sanctuary and support to various militant groups in the region. In a recent statement, the Foreign Office of Pakistan emphasized the expectation that the interim Afghan government will meet its responsibilities and prevent its territory from being utilized for hostile activities against Pakistan.

Rising Cross-Border Tensions

Officials within Pakistan have asserted that the nation reserves the right to conduct operations within Afghanistan if deemed necessary to safeguard its citizens, particularly in light of increasing cross-border tensions following a deadly incident in Bajaur. The Foreign Office spokesperson indicated that Pakistan’s demands for an end to terrorism emanating from Afghan soil must be met; otherwise, all possible options remain on the table for Pakistan. The statement underscored the urgency surrounding this issue as Pakistan navigates the complexities of regional security in light of recent attacks.
